"Microsoft Print To PDF" not installed

Hi,

Just deployed Windows 11 24H2 with Citrix VDI under VMware.

After logged on user profile, found "Microosft Print To PDF" not installed on some VDI. I have to reinstall on VDI which is missing this feature.

Since all VDI PC were deployed by same golden image.

What should be the root cause ? I afraid it is my fault while creation of golden image.

What is July 2025 CU ?

And the version available to download from Download Windows 11 already July 2025 CU ?

Also this is known issue since not encountered on all Windows 11 ?

If your install image doesn't have the July 2025 (or later) Monthly Update integrated into the image, then Print to PDF won't install because one of the included INF files is broken. The current ISO download (Oct 2024) or MediaCreationTool (June 2025) images don't have this Update included.

You have two options to repair Print to PDF:
1. Run Windows Update to install the current Monthly Update and restart, then add Print to PDF from Optional Features.
2. Run the PowerShell script included below to repair it.

This bug has only affected older W11 24H2 installs.

In place of of Microsoft Print to PDF, I would recommend PDF24 Creator - it has more functions, web based and FREE.

Understood.

It's weird why not all deployed VDI encountered same issue.

In December 2024 I installed 24H2 over 23H2 through Windows Update. It failed several times and the cause was 2 incompatible "drivers", one of them was Microsoft Print to PDF (the other Microsoft XPS Document Writer).

A similar issue (in Win10) is described in this 2019/5/29 page https://www.howtogeek.com/416169/how-to-fix-what-needs-your-attention-windows-10-setup-errors/ with the very same incompatible drivers I had (and ascertained following this method).

So I had to uninstall the 2 drivers.

According to an Oct-Nov 2024 post in a Reddit thread about updating to 24H2, 24H2 deleted these two options, both in the menu to install them and internally in files, until the next CU is installed. This CU brings them back.

I had the very same here (except that I didn't check the "internal deletion"). I tried to get the options back installing CUs manually (persuaded that it was a concrete CU what would bring the options back), well the CUs didn't even try to install. But the next CU I installed brought the options back.

I hope the July 2025 fix is real (I don't particularly need these drivers, although I dislike having to know and process exceptions manually).
