Microsoft Windows Desktop Runtime question

Hi folks,

I was just checking entries in my Revo Uninstaller and I noticed an entry: Microsoft Windows Desktop Runtime 5.0.17. Now I can remember installing this, as a program I use requires it, what I don't understand is that when I search this Runtime on Google it informs me it has reached end of life and I should update to Net 7.0.

Can anyone tell me why it didn't automatically update or inform me that it needs updating? Thanks.

EOL means it will not receive any more updates.
Some software on your system might stiff require it.
As far as update, this is all handled by Windows update.

Hi OAT,

That's the thing, I manually checked Windows Update to see if it had any updates for the runtime but I didn't receive anything. I guess they are handled separately. I was just concerned from a security perspective that I could be using an outdated and possibly vulnerable version of some software that I wasn't notified had an update.

This is .NET. The versions just coexist.
