I guess it's a good thing all my computers have gen 10 and above . . . and came with Windows 11.

Although, if my systems won't run Windows 12, I might have to learn a version of Linux. :(

The check above was an attempted clean install on a machine with an Intel Celeron(R) Dual-Core T3100 from 2008 that has been happily running 23H2 until now.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

I'm working on it :wink:

So far I've been able to do an in-place upgrade for an unsupported device using a 23H2 install usb (for which the appraserres workaround still works) with it's install.esd replaced by the 24H2 one. That machine did have PopCnt though, so far I can't upgrade one that doesn't have it. This may not be the fault of the missing PopCnt though, apparently 24H2 only supports UEFI boot (@fg2001gf11F knows more about this than I do) and this was on a Legacy/MBR machine.

The Notebooks I've played with are from 10 years ago or a bit newer [Dell Inspiron 15R and HP Envy 17 both Touch Screen], did a hardware clone of their drives first and saved them so can easily get back to Win10.

If this actually happens and takes non-POPCNT compliant pc's out of the picture, as long as my pc's are functional there will be other options. I run Linux Mint as a dual boot on my other system, and it is rock-solid. Heck I don't even remember the last time I used the terminal to do a command on it..... just its normal graphical interface unit.

All of my computers I'm using are Windows 11 compliant so I don't see me running into any problems. If by chance any of my computers can't run the next version of Windows I'll use Windows 11 for as long as I can or switch them over to Linux.

I already have Linux Mint on a computer, custom with Gigabyte board, Intel Core i7-4770 CPU. Most of the programs I regularly use are cross-platform, no issue if needing to change. And Linux has a new E-Mail client available called Evolution, looks good.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

I'm reasonably sure my PCs will all comply because they're all less than 5 years old and all came with Windows 11.

However, I do want to know how to tell if I (or anyone) have/has POPCNT.
