I recently downloaded windows 11 build 22621.1 (last month) via uupdump.

I just installed it and there's a weird issue in it apparently. I installed 7zip as the first application so far, went to go and open a zip file and I can't seem to see 7zip under the More Apps option, neither the option to use a local app from the device.

As you can see from the screenshots I'm missing the "Look for another app on this PC", and clicking on More Apps doesn't show me 7zip even when it's installed right there.

Right click on the file and select open with it should appear in the list then and give you the option to set it as default if you wish

Same thing. It shows me the same dialogue box, with More Apps option but no applications present within.

And no option to select any app manually from the device (manually selecting an exe - like in the 1st pic what I have encircled in red)

Edit: Can you help me get that red encircled option from the first pic by any chance?

I also came across this thread too.
But either I'm totally blind or the OP of that thread is, because I can't even see the same option I encircled in the image above in his posted pic either when he says it works for him 🤷🙄

Another thread for a similar issue. I think that's where my problem lies. That "Look for another app on this PC option" is supposed to show after more apps is shown. But more apps does nothing at all and just remains as is.

What is the extension of the file you wish to open with 7-zip is is it .zip?

In your first pic, what happens if you click on the circled option, then scroll down the list to the bottom to find another app on your pc then navigate to the 7z.exe that should do it or navigate from settings to

It is both 7zip and 7z. I understand that 7zip doesn't usually associate file types automatically and one has to do that manually (which can be accomplished via settings within 7zip or via windows default app settings).
This is where the issue comes forth, which I just learnt is apparently a bug. 22621.1 is an insider preview build (I can't be sure of what version the guy from the second thread I posted is running, but since this build is just a month old maybe bugs present in this version haven't been posted out yet). In build 22000.775 everything works as usual.

Problem is right there. The option I encircled in the 1st pic isn't present for me. Clicking More Apps does nothing at all literally. I can't select any other app (manually selecting the exe file) because it doesn't show me that option, fairly because "More Apps" button isn't doing what it is supposed to be doing.

Once I made 7zip default file opener for zip and 7z extensions (from 7zip settings, mind you because I couldn't select the 7zip exe manually because there was no option to select an app manually from device). And the list of apps from the 2nd pic, 7zip showed up once I associated 7z and zip files from the 7zip settings.

The pic you showed, just shows me the dialogue box in the 2nd app with the "More Apps" option. In that list, only the apps that are associated to open that particular extension will appear. If an app isn't present, you have to manually select an app yourself which is the option that is missing for me.

22621.105 works just fine. Seems like it was probably a bug within 22621.1 build.

EDIT: Spoke too soon. Seems like something is flipping up when I create/process the uup files with my preferred config. Welps.

Found the issue after several hours. Windows just wants to mess everything up for others. Is it me or has windows N editions always been riddled with ridiculous ass bugs not seen in the non-N editions for no apparent reasons? Especially things which do not require the media packs such as this, More Apps option?

In non-N edition it works as it should. I feel like Microsoft is just a flipping huge ass troll at any given point and trolls with anyone who doesn't want to use their products on their (Microsoft's) terms.
