Mouse freezes after an hour - help

I have a wired Logitech mouse. After an hour of using my mouse, it freezes. I tried almost everything like uninstalling the driver, updating the driver, plugging into another USB port, etc. How can I run a diagnostics to find any errors?

  • Try another USB port (I don’t have any idea if your mouse is wireless as you haven’t given enough information.)

Hi antspants.. thank you for replying. So its a wired mouse. I've tried disabling selective suspend but it doesnt work. There are times when the mouse freezes after 10 minutes of use to about an hour of use. Its sporadic like that.

The 2nd link you provided doesnt apply cuz I'm on a PC not notebook.

I'd really like to run a diagnostic on this. Do you know how I can?

I doubt whether there's a specific diagnostic option, unless provided by Logitech.

Any relevant entries in the Event Viewer?

Try another mouse - wired? wireless?

Try without drivers?

You could check Event Viewer to see if there is an indication at the time of the mouse freeze:
  • Look in: Event Viewer > Windows Logs > System
  • Filter by Time: Use Filter Current Log… to narrow events to 2 minutes around the freeze
  • Event IDs:
    • 9, 11, 12, 15 – Disk I/O errors (can cause system hangs)
    • 41 – Kernel-Power (unexpected shutdown or freeze)
  • Sources:
    • HIDCLASS – HID driver issues
    • USBHUB – USB controller or device errors
    • i8042prt – PS/2 keyboard/mouse port issues
    • HID Input Service – Input device service interruptions

    Right-click the log > Filter Current Log… > enter Event IDs and Sources above

  • You could also check the Reliability Monitor (I have never used it)

    • Press Win + S to open Windows Search
    • Type Reliability Monitor and click “View reliability history”
    • Alternative Path:
      • Open Control Panel
      • Go to System and Security
      • Click Security and Maintenance
      • Under Maintenance, click “View reliability history”
    • Use the timeline to spot crashes, freezes, or hardware errors by date

Next time this happens I'll note the time to match the event of the freezing then I'll upload the logs here so hopefully you can taker a look and tell me whats going on. Thanks man!
