I've been dealing with a frustrating mouse issue for a few months now and haven't been able to fix it.

The Problem:

  • Left-click failure: The left mouse button randomly stops working.
  • Temporary freezes: The mouse cursor regularly freezes or stops responding entirely for a few seconds.
  • Window focus lock: The mouse completely stops clicking on other windows, the taskbar, or the Start menu. However, it continues to work perfectly fine inside whatever specific window/app I was using at the exact moment the bug occurred.

What I've tried so far:

  • Completely reinstalled Windows (clean install/format).
  • Tested with different mice (swapped between two different brands).
  • Uninstalled, updated, and reinstalled all kinds of mouse and USB drivers.
Nothing has worked so far; the error keeps happening.

System Specs:

  • OS: Windows 11
  • Mice tested: Havit and Redragon
  • CPU: Intel Core i7-12700F
  • RAM: 32GB DDR4
  • GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 8GB
  • Storage: 1TB NVMe SSD

Check whether Filter Keys is set to On at Settings, Accessibility, Keyboard. If so, try setting that to Off.

Apparently this setting can affect the focus of mouse clicks as well as entry of keyboard keys.

Have you tried to switch USB port.. to an USB2 port?

Hi, I only created this account to share how I fixed the issue, in case you’re still having the same problem or someone else comes across this thread. Just a heads-up, English isn’t my first language, so I’m using a translator.

Anyway, I had the exact same problem. My mouse would move, but I couldn’t click anything except on the page I was currently on. The issue would temporarily go away when I locked Windows or pressed Ctrl + Alt + Delete.

I tried everything, including reinstalling Windows 11 and uninstalling the drivers. Eventually, I discovered that the mouse’s Forward button was stuck, damaged, or had a bad solder joint. It was constantly registering as pressed, which prevented me from doing anything else.

I disabled both the Forward and Back buttons in G Hub, and that fixed the problem for now. The only thing left is to figure out whether the damage can be repaired or if the side buttons will remain unusable.

Best regards!

most software enabled mice has had this problem at one time or another due to crap bloatware. Logitech software was really really bad at one time too. I suggest finding a mouse to test with that does not use any software at all, like a $2 mouse 2 button USB mouse from the used parts store.

Having a good quality mouse with mechanic switches or better doesnt hurt either. Also if you are already using all your USN ports on your PC there might be a conflict with your USB bus controller, so i suggest updating your motherboard drivers as well, which everyone should do on a fresh windows install.
