MS Teams Auto Opens A Specific Chat

Folks, starting yesterday, for no apparent reason, every time I open MS Teams, it goes to a certain colleague's chat thread (his name can be Bob for this discussion). I have dozens of people in my list of chat contacts. In the past when I opened Teams, it would always go to my pinned private chat with myself. Now it goes to Bob's chat automatically, every time I open Teams. I'm not sure why this started happening yesterday. I don't like this behavior and would like to revert to its previous behavior. Does anyone have any thoughts?

I'm using Teams version 25163.3611.3774.6315, which the app says is the latest.

Hello, you can follow the to resolve the issue -
1) Open MS Teams
2) Click on your Profile Picture at top right corner.
3) Select Settings
4) Click on General
5) Now in "Application" section, you will see an option for "Open application in." Select "Teams" from the drop-down menu.
6) Click on save.

Apparently you’re not alone, recent update 25163.3611.3774.6315.

Has it updated again since you had this issue and posted this threwad, have they fixed it? If not:

Clear Teams cache, you can safely clear the cache. This shouldn’t delete chats or files—they're stored in the cloud.

Quit Teams Completely
Right-click the Teams icon in the system tray and choose Quit.

Open the Cache Location
Navigate to:
Code: 
C:\Users\<YourUsername>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Teams

Delete Contents of These Folders
Do NOT delete the folders themselves—just everything inside:
  • Cache
  • blob_storage
  • databases
  • GPUCache
  • IndexedDB
  • Local Storage
  • tmp

Restart Microsoft Teams
Launch Teams again—cached settings will regenerate automatically.

Thank you for the feedback folks. Oddly enough, the problem fixed itself a couple days later. I'm not sure how or why it happened, but it seems to be fixed now. I will definitely keep these tips in mind that you mentioned though, in case it happens again.

Is the version number still the same? May have updated itself.

Regardless, glad it’s fixed.

I didn't realize until now, but yes it looks like the version updated. I'm now at 25185.410.3812.8024. But I don't know if the correction was coincident with a version update. It may have been, but I don't think there is any way to tell.

You weren’t tho only one complaining about that version on the internet, so I’d say it was a version error.

Regardless, I am glad you are sorted.
