I have tried searching this issue and haven't found anything that looks relevant. I have downloaded and installed Teams for work. The programs and Features control panel shows one instance of Teams installed, version 1.5.00.33362. Teams starts automatically on login, which is the desired behaviour, but when I look at the Startup apps in Task Manager I see an item called "Update.exe (11)" with the Teams icon. I can expand it and it shows 11 more lines. 10 are named "Microsoft Teams", and 1 is named "Teams.exe". All bear the Teams logo. If I right-click and Open File Location, the last "Microsoft Teams" entry points to C:\Users\clarknova\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Teams\Update.exe. The other 10 point to C:\Users\dburgess\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Teams\current\Teams.exe. The Startup impact varies by item and except for the parent line, the Status column is empty. I have the option to disable only the parent line. Screenshot attached.
  1. Is this expected?
  2. If so, why so many entries?
  3. If not, how to correct?
I'm not sure if this is related, but Teams takes a long time to join a meeting, even though I'm already logged into it when I launch the meeting; I'd estimate nearly a minute, although I haven't timed it. I was able to join meetings much quicker a month ago while running Windows 10 21H2 on this same hardware.

I know of a laptop with the same issue.
Please let us know if you found a solution.

I didn't find a solution, and eventually I had to reinstall MS Office for unrelated reasons and I haven't had the problem since reinstalling.

Thank you for the reply, late in the evening I came across this MS forum post but forgot to reply to this thread:
I deleted Teams files and now there's some strange "update" program listed in startup apps.

The post suggests using System Internals Autoruns to remove the entry. I think I used Autoruns to search for "update" and / or "teams". It seems to work but not certain if this is the best solution, e.g. perhaps there is an update.exe remnant somewhere under Program Files

update.exe is indeed the name of one of the executables I have seen that will launch Teams. You can use Autoruns to disable it. Some uninstaller software can also be used to disable things from running automatically. BCUninstaller is one.
