My take on Windows 11

That could mean one of two things.

The first is that Windows 10 hasn't yet run the compatibility assessment on your PC and as yet the answer is unknown. That is the more likely explanation for @wabbit seeing it for a while.

The second is that a known issue has recently been discovered that applies to your PC. In this case a block would have been placed on you receiving it until the issue is resolved. This could explain your status going from 'ready to install' to 'we're doing some extra testing....'. See if any of the recent known issues here apply to your PC.

Bree: Thanks for that reference. I checked known issues and found this:

Compatibility issues have been found between Oracle VirtualBox and Windows 11
You might be unable to start Virtual machines (VMs) and you might receive an error.

I do use VirtualBox to run a Linux distro. Maybe this is causing the delay.

With my horrible memory, I can barely remember Windows 10.

I like the taskbar in windows 11 just as much. I don't mind the start menu. I do like that it has this large window where all your pinned apps appear. Sure, you have to rearrange them, but that's life. Windows 11 seems a little quicker.

Not thrilled about bundling the network and speakers, though. It was better in Windows 10. I don't do any fancy tweaking on my OS, so I can't speak about that. I figure there will always be pros and cons to anything new.

I'm still waking and can't think of anything else off the top of my head at the moment.

Appearance: Meh..., I can take it or leave it..., appearance can always be tweaked, *knock on wood*

Functionality: I think they made a lot of compromises in that department compared to W10!

What worries me is that your PC is rapidly becoming an advertising platform and vending machine!

I think PC stands for Public Computer more than Personal Computer nowadays!

With regards to pushing ads, I'm not a fan either; though I do wonder if that revenue wasn't there for Microsoft, would Windows still be free?

I guess it's a give and take situation - we get Windows for free but ads come with it. Seems the old adage is holding - there is no such thing as a free lunch.

I actually like the appearance far more than Windows 10. That's me.

I haven't seen any advertising other than the ones I get when I play a free game from the MS store. But I only play one game so it's not an issue to me, at least. Look and feel.. I like it a bit more than 10 but it's so close to not really matter.

To me, an OS is there just to let me run my apps/software and if I can do that I'm satisfied.

The fallacy here is they are not just free game generated; nor are you bombarded with them but they do pop up every now and then.

Well.. I didn't have to pay to use it so in a way it is free. And fact is when I play Simple Mahjong do have an ad there constantly.

Bottom line to me is I don't see any advertising when using 11.

I also don't see any advertising. I don't play the free games (no time!), so perhaps that is why. That Windows 11 is free is a great boon. Of course, I could always get it for something like $14.00 because I teach at a university.

Yeah, the fact that I turn on my PC and get ads when I go to the internet means what? The fact that I pay for all my games and don't get ads means what?

Your getting ads from browsing the web is not the same as getting ads from MS.,

I don't get a single ad in Windows. In the web browser yes, but only if I don't block them. Most sites I visit does not have ads anyways.

Wow. I get none of that. I wonder if it's because I use Edge and OneDrive. This is the first I've seen of nags like this.

Interesting, I've never gotten any nag or ad screens but then again I always disable them in winareo tweaker.

Best way to get rid of that is by uninstalling one drive.

I don't recall ever seeing those things either; I use Chrome and Google Drive.
