OS
Windows 11 Pro
Hi all,

I just want to say (as I have said in the past) that is one of the top notch forums for Windows support and we have some of the best qualified users here.

I am probably not the oldest and the most experienced but after almost 25 years of doing desktop support, building PC's and 7 year MVP, I think I can add my 2 cents without feeling too embarrassed.

I have always been amazed at the Windows operating systems and have also always anxiously waited for the newest version with the bells and whistles that come with it. XP and seven were among my favorites, but I must say that 10 21H2 (even 21H1) has taken the top spot. What nags me is that MS has taken this bad habit of not fixing simple issues like Dcom 10016, VSS, event 200, 201 issues and so on and on... But despite that, this system runs very, very well, just a way bit less snappier then 11 but a lot, I mean a lot of issues you don't see with 11.

Yes, you might say, "well it actually took almost 10 years to get here" and you are totally right, but we are HERE!!

So, why would I want to start this process all over for how many years? I don't know. The BIG difference now is that making the move to a new OS was fun because it was very different and had new ideas which at first I didn't like (just as often other users react to new stuff) but got to enjoy after time.

Now, I didn't want to add my 2 cents without first playing around the OS and I have done that for a few months.

This the first time that I don't want to upgrade to this new OS. It has the same issues that 10 has (although they are minor) but on top of that some of the settings that I have grown to like are gone. Can't add files to start, can't slide my favorite links to start. Added a context to context menu to make it more confusing and I am not mentioning everything. Sure, I can tweak and add reg files to get most of it back, but I already have an OS that does this.

The difference with this OS is that, for me, it doesn't add anything new which wasn't the case with XP and 7. They had a whole bunch of new tools and toys that made life easier. On this OS I even have to have a chip and enable to get (in my case) nothing that I want.

I could go on and on, but like I said, I just wanted to add my 2 cents. I'm not expecting everyone to agree with me but that's what freedom of choice is all about.

And that my friends, are my 2 cents. 😊👍

11 is more of a service pack (remember them?) than a new OS. I've switched, but I see more irritating changes that make it just that little bit less convenient than any meaningful benefits that outweigh the demerits.

Very well written 2 cents! And I must agree.

Only thing I was really excited about is the upcoming Android support. But even that is a bit fiddly at the moment. Have to tweak it to is knees in order to make it usable for my usage.

Other than that everything in Windows 11 vs 10 has been more of a regression than advancement in my opinion.

Hi,
One step forward two steps backwards.
Too much legacy in 11 to think it was worth a new os label, maybe school starting and holiday sells ruled why win-11 released as is.

I'm only using it (Windows 11) on a test computer. Haven't even considered upgrading my 4 home desktop PC's that the family all use (all on 10). Not upgrading my work laptop from 10. At present, 11 doesn't offer me any solutions to things that are broken.

I've had numerous family and friends ask me if they should move to Windows 11, and after chatting with them, and saying it's not really bad...they all basically have decided to just stay on 10 for the time being. I think the adoption rate to Windows 11 is going to be pretty slow.

This the first time that I don't want to upgrade to this new OS.
My thoughts exactly. Windows 11 is the very first Windows operating system that I have not been keen to upgrade to. I started with Windows 3.1.

Windows 11 takes away and offers me nothing.

I have one computer that I have been testing Windows 11 on, and the others will be staying on Windows 10.
I am even thinking of switching the test computer back to 10.

All four of mine are on 11. If a year from now they haven't fixed what people in the Feedback Hub can't believe was broken in the first place I'll likely drift back to the Mac. I'd go to Linux but it's not stable.

From what I've read of workarounds it's not a big deal. It's very likely inevitable.

This is exactly what I meant by tweaking it to its knees. It is possible to make Google Play Store or any store to work on WSA, but you have to hack and slash the image into bits and pieces.

And to make things even worse, every time there is an update to the image files, you have to start all over.

@Dru2, Thanks for your comment. You are absolutely right about security, but I don't need it and as far as speed, I seen it a bit snappier than 10 and it should get better (at least I hope) but for me, right now on my system specs, it's not worth the move. Doesn't mean I won't change my mind in the future but...

Yeah, I'm not trying to convince, to each his own. But that's the way I see it and why I'm staying on Win 11.

I'll still be running Win 10 on my other two machines, but that's to do with hardware (CPU) and nothing else. But my main rig is Win 11.

Peace

I've installed W11Pro on a newly assembled PC and I'm happy with it. I no longer encounter some annoyances I'd been having with W10Pro (especially power-management issues, where some apps would prevent the PC from idling out into sleep mode, despite using "powercfg /requestsoverride"; and some apps that I did want the PC to stay awake for were properly bypassing the screen saver, but still letting the PC time out and sleep, which was even worse without the screen saver triggering first to warn me).

I have no idea if the improvement is due to Win11 itself or if it's just a consequence of doing a clean install on a new PC, but either way it has turned out well.

@Zardoc Some very good comments, my only thought after what you said is that if it took 10 years to get Windows 10 to where it is today was it released too soon? and relied on the public to be it's testers whether insiders or not. Just a thought certainly not moaning. I thought Win 7 was the best as I like the eye candy look of it and for me, it worked very well.

Interestingly, my very Windows 11-capable PC has transitioned from "Click Here to install Windows 11" to "Get ready for Windows 11". If I click on the "Check Hardware Requirements" link on the Windows Update page, it takes me to a Microsoft site which says this at the top of the page:

We’re working on it

We’re doing some extra testing to make sure Windows 11 is ready for certain PCs—yours included.

What can I read into this? Is Microsoft slowing the Windows 11 deployment?

I got a similar message after I updated one of my systems to Win 10 21H2. After about one day, the message reappears that my system doesn't meet the requirements for Windows 11.

I upgraded to Win 11 and there were some annoying issues.

I took the plunge early this morning and did a clean installation after making a Macrium Image of Win 10

I keep all my programs on a separate disk and know the location of the data in the Macrium Image.

After the complete installation and some customization I am very pleased. It has a "polished" appearance.

I am not going back to win 10

I haven't received the 21H2 upgrade yet. I know my system meets requirements because up until now I had the "update" link. I also ran Microsoft's PC Health checker program which said my PC has all the requirements. It's just odd that the offer to update has gone underground. No problem, though, since I wasn't in any hurry to upgrade. As others have posted, it's the first Windows release that I'm not really in any hurry to use.
