Need help from someone who has automatic drive encryption enabled (NOT BitLocker)

I do not have any systems that have automatic drive encryption enabled so I cannot test this....

With BitLocker, you can suspend protection for one single boot so that you can perform operations that would normally trigger the request for the BitLocker Recovery Key. This can be done from the GUI in File Explorer or by running this command from an elevated command prompt:

manage-bde -protectors -disable C:

That will suspend BitLocker for ONE boot and it will re-enable itself next time you boot back into Windows.

My question: Will this same command also disable automatic disk encryption? CoPilot says that once the protectors are enabled for Automatic Device Encryption that this command will work the same there as it does for BitLocker, but I'm wondering if anyone can confirm this for me.

How to test:

In File Explorer, the C: drive should show a lock on the drive like this:

NOTE: The above is not my C: drive, but the point remains the same.

After running the command above that icon should look like this:

After a reboot, the bang will disappear and revert back to the lock icon.

If anyone is willing to test this, I would greatly appreciate it.

Correct. It will also suspend the OS drive with Device Encryption. Device Encryption is just a basic BitLocker version.

When you suspend BitLocker protection for an OS drive, it will remain unlocked and unprotected until you either manually resume BitLocker protection for the drive, have it automatically resume BitLocker protection after a specified number of times (RebootCount) you restart the computer, or have it automatically resume BitLocker protection the next time you restart the computer.

If you use BitLocker To Go on portable SSD drives, as I do, the same command will disable BitLocker protection on your Portable SSD Drives. There is a difference though. On a portable SSD drive BitLocker remains suspended until the suspension is removed in managing BitLocker settings. This is how I use my Portable Samsung 4TB T9 drives to enable restoring backup images I've made using Macrium Reflect X.

Thanks everyone. I already knew how this worked with BitLocker, just was not 100% sure about the device encryption.

BTW, @garlin, if you only want to last for one reboot than the RebootCount is optional. It works flawlessly as I showed it.

I'm just trying my had at modifying the batch file from @Sheikh used to automatically update the certs. I'm adding a bunch of functionalities to it to better suit my purposes.

@Sheikh, let me know if you are interested in seeing what I did with that batch file.

In brief:

1) If the cert is already updated, it will tell you that there is no need to update and then exit.

2) If Secure Boot is not enabled (or not available on the system) it will inform you of this and prompt you to enable it.

3) If BitLocker (or Drive Encryption) is present it will automatically suspend it so there is no need to enter the recovery key if you mess with Secure Boot.

4) Other than simply logging on, no interaction is needed after the first reboot. The second reboot will happen with no interaction needed.
