Solved Need some assistance


My machine is out of warranty---worked perfectly for almost 2-years with this issue starting about a month ago
I'll give the CLEAN BOOT method a try-THANKS for the insight!

    The case fan and CPU cooler were after purchase upgrades...the i7 cpu runs hot and the OE solution can best be described as marginal when CPU intensive apps are used.

No, nothing wrong. It's just that the software isn't meant for that particular SSD.

On another note, do you have a spare drive you could clone and see if it still
freezes ?

Well, for one thing, he is not in the RP channel.
Others here in the last few days have complained that
after installing that update, their PCs have been acting up.
I don't really know if this update is the cause but, why take
the chance of installing a half baked update now, when they
will be part of the CU latter on. So, for prevention sake , I always
ask that members do not install preview updates. I was caught
last year (June 26) and had to reinstall.

Yeah, you can save images to those but, a clone cannot be used with a external drive.
In my research for your ssd, I saw that it is a small factor 2230. Can you install 2280?
I don't know how much they cost at the moment and I don't know the PCIe of your drive.
Is it PCIe 3 or 4?

based on its' size (approx3"lg) I have a 2280
Per DELL it's a PCLe Gen 3.0
FWIW- the motherbord has the screw hole for both the small 2230 and larger (longer) 2280

And that is a good thing to do.
I prefer a spare clone which I re-clone my spare 990 Pro whenever I install a new game.
Am not worried about updates (except Previews) as they will be re-installed on the cloned
drive. To each his/her own and whatever works best for you.

A little follow-up--
After the latest freeze yesterday, early afternoon, I restarted the machine and preformed the CLEAN BOOT protocol as detailed by SPUNK.(earlier post)
The machne has been running perfectly since that change.
Though it's a bit early to say, positively, but it seems my issue is software/services related.
The CLEAN BOOT disabled 23 services. I'll leave it ths way for several days then start the task of uncovering which software/service is the culprit.
There are only 23 items on that list.
I'll report back on any findings or changes
A real BIG THANK-YOU to everyone here
VERY VERY happy it's not a hardware issue

PROTON VPN (freeware version)----so far
The PROTON services to be precise
I have simply deleted the app from my desktop (REVO Uninstaller)
FWIW-I seldom use that app in fact I can't recall the last time I use it.

Follow-up
This went quicker than expected
From the list of 23 SERVICES listed during the CLEAN BOOT the following have been pin-pointed as the cause(s) of my freeze issue--
PROTON VPN -As noted in an earlier post
MAXX AUDIO PRO
WAVE AUDIO (bundled in the MAXX AUDIO PRO suite Dell installs on their PC's)
I deleted the PROTON VPN and MAXX AUDIO PRO software
I deleted the SERVICES for the WAVE AUDIO(didn't go away with the deletion of the MAXX AUDIO PRO)
My desktop is back to a NORMAL BOOT-UP and running properly
AGAIN- a huge THANK-YOU to all who took the time to offer advice and insights
I even learned a few new things!

One question. Do you have any other audio program(s) installed that will adjust/control the sound on

I forget who recommended FxSound to me but ever since they did I have been using it on both of my desktops.
