I slept on it, but still haven't made up my mind. . lol The G1 that I already ordered will be here tomorrow. I can order 16GB RAM Kit and the XEON E3-1246 V3 and the 16GB RAM Kit for a Grand Total of $48.14 (And still have about $50 left over). If i order the G4, I have no money left to upgrade, except maybe the 16GB RAM kit

There is always problem upgrading hardware components of prebuild PCs your best bet is to upgrade the CPU, RAM but not sure if you can upgrade motherboard specially Small From Factor case.

To upgrade CPU check the manual of the computer, you can found the manual at HP support website for your computer.

These are fast little machines. I personally love these little minis from HP.

Go into the bios using the escape key, then within the bios (connected to ethernet) update the bios, and then make sure secure boot & virtualization is turned on.

Then Install windows 11 and then get your drivers here:


This still gets updates from HP and is still supported. Bios was recently updated.

I don't know if a XEON chip will work in that motherboard. Better check before you buy.

I read somewhere the 800 g4 micro will work with the 35w 9th gen cpus e.g. 9500T but doubt they will work with higher tdp models.

Have you tried any 9th gen cpu with your 800 g4 SFF ?

No, that's no go on HP 800.

HP 800 G4/G5 hardware look same except BIOS. (I can't actually see any other difference.)
The difference is in the BIOS and the biggest difference between the G4 and G5 is the CPU microcode and device ID preventing you from cross flashing BIOS.

If cost is a concern, a user should go 8500. in US ebay only $40.
If specs is a concern, a user can select 9500. some $100.
But both no any difference in performance, confirmed either in my tests, or those published bench tests.

CPU 9600 to 12600, identical to 8600
(what Intel did in last 5-10 yrs, was really bad. no progress in CPU performance. 13th/14th were breaking through the barrier, but got bugs. No wonder nearly bankrupt this year)

In my practice, every two generations upgrade, it’s worth. I can tell the performance difference by my test.
6500 --> 8500
8500 --> 10500
10500 --> 12500

In contrast,
7500 is very similar to 6500
9500 is very similar to 8500
11500 is very similar to 10500

These selling are just marketing issue. No any performance improvement.


And under same CPU power, output on W7 is greater than that on W11.

I wasn't able to get a G4. . I'm going to be able to upgrade the RAM to 16GB and I'm also getting the Xeon Quad-Core CPU as well. I already got the RAM in. . I'll get the CPU probably on Saturday.
