Network file access dead in 11 Insider DEV Build 22454.1000

I can't access other PCs on the network to get files. When I try from File Explorer, Windows Media Player opens in an offer to play music, etc. I have absolute zero interest in that function. DEV machine files are accessible to other PCs on the network. When I try to check Network and Sharing Center for sharing settings, I can't find that settings page anywhere. Any ideas on where I should look???

UPDATE: I found the problem. Shortcuts I was using to access drives on other PCs are no longer working. I can access some of those drives directly from File Explorer, but even a newly created shortcut won't work. Trying to access drives on 1 PC from File Explorer still causes Media Player to open for some reason. Maybe bugs just in this build.

So, the devices in the Network only show up as media devices?

I had a problem with File explorer and Networked HDD's -- even with SMB1 enabled --it would show all the HDD's on remote computers but would not display any further directories on these HDD;s -- if you clicked on the disk(s) --nothing - no reaction etc.
This problem only occurred on a FRESH install of W11 -- on an update from any previous W11 version file explorer functioned correctly. Issues the same whether installed on a physical machine or running as a VM.

Had same problem also on build 22454 I rolled back to 22449 and it works

I may have to consider that. It's not working in 22458 either.

When I try to open a drive on 1 networked PC from my DEV machine, Windows Media Player pops up instead of the usual File Explorer window showing the drive contents. It doesn't happen on the other 3 PCs. There must be some way to correct that, but I haven't found it yet.

Hrm. Only thing I can think of is maybe that device has allowed network music sharing,, what is that thing we turn off in the Move \Users folder tutorial? Ahh, yes - WMPNetworkSvc

Seriously doubt that is the answer, but *something* somewhere is making Win11 think that one device is a streaming player and not an actual PC....

What devices show in Device manager --> Software devices?

In common with above, even 22000.194 has a very hit and miss access to shared network folders.

Also on my PC , the default SSID changed to an out of range and removed connection !
