Hi,

I've got a new build, see my specs. I'm having a few problems. When I compress or uncompress files. My CPU temperature shoots up to 93c, is this normal for an Intel Core Ultra 9 285K?

I've not used an Intel CPU for many years, I switched from AMD.

Thank you for any help

Apply new thermal paste to CPU maybe it will help.

It was a new build, from scan.co.uk only had it 4 days.
I understand, but maybe they did not apply thermal paste to CPU because overheating cause by either thermal paste or not good air ventilation.

When I watched them build it, I did see them remove the stock thermal paste (live build feed). Will contact them tomorrow and ask if they added some new thermal paste. They also did a stress test (AIDA64 Extreme) before sending it me.

Phoned, scan and they said Intel CPU's such as the more powerful ones; while doing intensive compression or un-compression (big files), it will cause the temperatures to go higher, such as in the 90c+, when I'm not zipping up files, the temperatures seem fine at 30-60c...

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

"For this test, I manually set the fans to operate tied to the temperature of the CPU and set the pump to the “extreme” profile. Keeping Intel’s Arrow Lake Core Ultra 9 285K cool is no easy task, but the Titan 360 RX RGB was able to keep the CPU at an average of 93 degrees C – which puts it amongst the strongest AIOs on the market, tied for the third-strongest result I’ve seen on this system."

I just ran that AIDA64 Stress test for 15 minutes and my CPU never went above 70C. This the Core 9 Ultra with a Corsair Link Titan 280 RX RGB. And this is with the pre-installed AIO cooler paste thermal paste.

A bit late, but a random thought:

If "Mister.T" is using the Corsair iCue software to control the AIO, I suggest setting its pump to full speed ("extreme").

I use an older Corsair AIO with an I9-13900K, which consumes about the same amount of power as an I9 Core Ultra. I don't see that kind of bump in CPU temperature. There's an immediate increase to a lower value (maybe the 80s), followed by a slow rise as the water warms.

I just ran that AIDA64 Stress test for 15 minutes and my CPU never went above 70C. This the Core 9 Ultra with a Corsair Link Titan 280 RX RGB. And this is with the pre-installed AIO cooler paste thermal paste.

Did the same stress test for 10mins, on my Intel Core Ultra 9 285K (Corsair Link Titan 360 RX). I'm getting CPU Throttling (Max 66%)...

It's a custom Scan build they said if the AIO was not installed properly the temperatures would shoot up high once booted up, it only goes high on stress tests and loads, I don't think its overclocked. As I've touched nothing, only installed Windows 11 Pro.

That's cool. I would still check as there are all sorts of posted issues with store bought custom builds not being done right.

Anyway, we have near the same spec system (check my updated specs) and on my system my temps are stable. In fact, this new system doesn't ramp up fans like my previous system did when gaming so thus far the system is quiet and cool.

One thing you might do is go into the BIOS and make sure the system isn't using a tweaked-up CPU profile. I was getting BSODs after my build, but changing my Profile from Intel Performance (BIOS default setting) to BaseLine got rid of them. These are the profiles installed in the BIOS....

I guess that would depend on how efficient your cooling is. I've been using Corsair AIO coolers forever and never ran any on "Extreme". Either Balanced or Quiet. Extreme gets loud. The temps I posted above are with my AIO cooler set to balanced Mode....

(snip)

Honestly, I wouldn't use Extreme unless overclocking or bench testing as Extreme gets loud as it maxes pump and fan speeds.
I just run the pump at "extreme" (full speed). Not the fans. The fans are much too noisy at full speed on my Corsair iCUE H150i ELITE CAPELLIX. (Which is why I replaced them with quieter ones.)

Other AIO makers that run off the motherboard (rather than having a separate controller) recommend connecting the pump to a dedicated header, which supplies a fixed 12V.

I don't overclock, but I found that the I9-13900K tended to come close to thermal throttling under heavy, continuous load. I didn't like that.

I’m the same, I don’t like my PC to run hot, my AMD ryzen 9 5000 series never went over 70c…I’ve contacted Intel and Scan about this.
