New builds fail to download in Windows Update

Ive had Win11 since July 2021. Last week I did an inplace upgrade install hoping to fix Windows Search, which it did not. (That's another major issue. I've tried everything, but Windows Search from ANY place in Win 11 will not and has never worked at all for me. Help?) But my question for you is this- for months Ive been using a cmd bypass or two to enable my laptop to update and get the new Insider builds thru Windows Update and it's worked perfectly until the inplace upgrade. Ive run the command again rechecked to make sure its enabled, etc. But I still cannot update with Windows Update. Maybe I'm forgetting a second bypass cmd or reg tweak that I had to use a year ago, I'm not sure. Thought it was just the one cmd. (I was on 22622.343 I think it was before the inplace upgrade. Now I'm stuck at 22621.1) Any help or advice is very appreciated.

I googled Lenovo N580 specs, but there seems to be a few different CPUs offered in that model.
I mention this because... Microsoft has been threatening all along to eventually block updates on computers that aren't listed as compatible with Windows 11.

I believe @Try3 has the most incompatible computers that are running Windows 11.
I'm not sure if he's running Insider builds or not.

I have an unsupported Lenovo Yoga 11e that is currently running the Insider Release Preview build 22621.457, see my 'system 4' in the 'Other Info' section of 'My Computers' below.

Microsoft have no blocks on any unsupported device receiving cumulative updates through Windows Update. Even a Feature Update through Windows Update will complete successfully with a simple workaround.

No, I'm not running Insider builds [I left Insider on about 1st August 2015 and know nothing about Insider issues anymore].

I've been getting the CUs correctly.

is incorrect. All they have done is not commit to continued support for them.

In my book, that's the same as blocking them.
We still need to find out how they're "not gonna support them".

For the Feature Update through Windows Update, you mean?

There are no compatibility checks done for installing cumulative updates, but when WU tries to install a feature update it runs exactly the same checks as a clean install would do - and of course fails on an unsupported device, with a Retry button showing in Windows Update.

At this point you create a 'new text file' on your desktop, then rename it as appraiserres.dll. Put this in C:\$WINDOWS.~BT\Sources to replace the one already there. Now press the Retry button in Windows Update and it will complete successfully.

Well for a start, try calling Microsoft for help with a problem on an unsupported device.....

I don't have that folder at all. The only place I have the appraiserres.dll file is in "C:\$Windows.~WS\Sources\Windows\sources"

No, you won't until you have had Windows Update try to install a feature update, or you perform an in-place upgrade. The folder and its files are created on your C:\ drive when you do that. After the first install tries and fails on compatibility checks, replace that .dll and tell it to Retry.
