New CPU & TPM for the new requirement ?

C'mon guys -- install via iso -- provided you have TPM it WORKS even for 6th GEN Intel processors on old laptops.
The bugbear in this is that you will need to do a "Clean install" as upgrade will do the hardware validation checks.

I've just installed on an external USB device using RUFUS with the WindowstoGO option.

No problems of any kind other than I had to install on a "Standard USB3 ext device" rather than an SSD connected vis SATA->USB adapter -- probably the R UFUS software not compatible for install on that type of connection.

However after install I cloned the USB3 HDD to the SSD device and it works perfectly.

Got a whole slew of updates as well.

Cheers

You're more of an advanced user.. I would never suggest that to someone who may not be as advanced as you are.

Thanks, I will think about it and then go shopping soon!!
Is there any particular reason you MUST upgrade to Windows 11? Windows 10 will still be supported for 4 more years at least. I would personally recommend for you to wait, if your computer works great for you as is.

Hi folks
I like the WindowstoGO method as it means I don't need to change anything on a running computer -- If W11 fails I can just boot normal OS (Win 10 in this case). !!!

I can also fiddle around with languages / features etc without hosing up running / existing system.

BTW the Rufus WindowstoGO install will still preserve Digital activation if you already have a W10 (or even W7/W8/W8.1) license.

Cheers

Hi there
I assume most of the users on these Forums are reasonably conversant with computers !!! I wouldn't expect in any case typical home users to start messing around with W11 until it gets a whole lot more mainstream.

The 100% golden rule is don't be taken in by all the commercials exhorting people to go out and buy new gear --- if your current stuff is working 100% for you then keep it - and if you must try out W11 use the various "Get around" methods on the Net plus of course Virtual Machines.

I just installed the release ISO on one of my Intel NUC's. It's a NUC 5i5RYK, which is a 5th generation Intel Core i5. Obviously, installed clean using the ISO file, and the NUC supports TPM which I had to turn on.

And it is getting Windows updates from Microsoft as we speak.

Great advice, thanks...my win pro is running like a baby!! I will probably wait a bit and read some of the things going on with Win 11 and then rebuild me a new system. Again, thanks. I will Close this chat (solved) because I made my decision to wait for some months before I go shopping for a new pc. (y)

On my WintoGO system --updating as well.

On basic install / upgrade via MS -- FAIL on "This PC can't run W11".

Don't believe everything you see and read on the Internet !!! (including my posts --nothing wrong in checking before blindingly following as we can all make mistakes . In this instance though I've checked and repeated more than once so in good spirit : -- I hope though my stuff usually works !!!).

that's another issue -- we are on a technical Forum so I hope people who are a bit more savvy with computers will play around and try things out first for themselves before getting "The Great Unwashed" to try this stuff out.

Hi there

The best way is to find a way that works and then when YOU can make it work repeatedly is THEN that is the time to instruct users and students --- too many peole don't try stuff out first before giving instructions to others. The old fashioned idea of POC (Proof of Concept) first seems totally lacking these days.

If the teacher / instructor isn't sure -- then how can the poor students ever learn or feel confident.

OK -- "Mea Culpa" but there are still ways of teaching people -- I've done it myself -- it's not easy but often after hard work very rewardable. Just explain things in simple concepts and get them to do things step by step and it usually follows OK.

I wanted to upgrade my ATX Mid-tower system with to install Windows 11. My system had incompatible hardware for win 11

My initial purchase was
1)ASUS PRIME B450-PLUS motherboard
2)i511400 Intel CPU
3) Compatible 16 gig memory.

The upgrade was to be done by a person who had a small computer store but is now working from home.
He has built many of my systems in the past before I retired.

Before I took the parts to him I realized that there was no TPM module on the ASUS motherboard.

TPM2 module for the Asus motherboard are scarce .

Fortunately there was one store in the computer chain that had the last one.
I bought it for 28 dollars plus tax. Amazon did not have it

I drove 15 km to the store. I made certain that I was the first person to enter the store when it
opened at 10am

Did I subject myself to unnecessary stress trying to locate the Asus TPM2 Module?

The upgrade went fine and I am enjoying my windows 11

Did I subject myself to unnecessary stress trying to locate the Asus TPM2 Module?

Not only undue stress, but undue expense. All you had to do was enable the TPM in the bios; fTPM for AMD and PTT for Intel.

Also,

My initial purchase was
1)ASUS PRIME B450-PLUS motherboard
2) i511400 Intel CPU
3) Compatible 16 gig memory.

never in a million years would those two be compatible, so what exactly did you get?
