Solved New monitor question


Note that there are several types of screen coatings. Many have a plastic coating, frequently with just enough anti-glare stippling to minimize reflections. Those are pretty fragile and I've never seen one without a protective film when they come out of the box. I do have a pair of HP 27" monitors that actually have a glass surface on the screen, they're fairly old and I don't remember if they had a film on them. They could probably get away without the film since short of breaking the glass, you probably wouldn't damage the screen.

The older version didn't show any plastic protector when unboxed in a you tube. Also a curved model unboxed showed none in a different you tube. It's suppose to be here today I guess I'll find out what the deal is. If it performs correctly, I guess that's all that matters. Glad Amazon has a 30 day return policy at least.

It's just a poor translation into English. It's saying not to pull it off until you're happy that it works. If you're going to claim DOA or cracked or something like that, they want to see that it's as they shipped it.

Of course, that does raise the question of "what it I see a defect once the film is pulled off?". I guess they argue about it then.

I have seem some electronics lately that looked like they had a film, but it was actually part of the screen. But you can generally tell if you try to lift the corner even a fraction of a fraction of a mm.

All the film coverings I've seen on monitor screens have a tab somewhere to start to lift them. I have seen other products with small panels with film with no tab.

You definitely should remove the film (at least after you make sure it works!). Samsung may have found that there is a smaller chance of damaging the screen if you pull the film off a certain way.

I just bought a Samsung 27" Odyssey G50D monitor. I saw the same thing as the OP.

On the bottom left corner of the film was

I think the comment that it was just until you initially tested the monitor that you shouldn't remove it. I can't imagine any reason you wouldn't remove it after it's installed.

That seems strange to me!
That's like saying: Don't wash your car the wrong way or you may void the warrantee! 🤷‍♂️

I received the monitor today. And it did have a red tab at bottom left corner. Everything seems alright now, the fun part adjusting everything the way my eyes prefer lol! I sure appreciate all the help from everyone! (y)
