Searched on line, all I found were the usual conflicting and confusing "help" files, so I came here to ask for some actual help, namely how do I reconnect the external hard drive? (At least that the drive is no longer connected told me why my Macrium Reflect backups failed without my needing to open Macrium and look at the logs.)

For us to give the most pertinent answers, could you please elaborate on your problem. From the title of your thread I understand that you changed the motherboard. Does the machine boot into Windows? Did you replace it with an identical model board? Has the new board been flashed with latest bios? There are usb settings in bios. Have you verified all the bios settings are correct in the new board?
If the replacement board is in fact identical to the old board, is all other hardware also the same?
If you can boot into windows open device manager. Expand Universal Serial Bus Controllers and post a screenshot of the results.

Sorry,, I edited my original message to relate how I fixed the problem, but after submitting it, at least in theory, that addition is not there, nor can I edit the message again. I had even added "Solved" to the title, which is no longer there.

Suffice it to say that it occurred to me to wonder what would happen were I to turn off the USB socket on the powered hub, then turn it back on. What happened is that the K:\ drive was instantly recognized. I have already run the short D:\ backup in Macrium, and the longer C:\ backup is running (or was until finished while writing this.)
