Hi All

I've just upgraded to the new outlook as it now seems to support IMAP. However, I've several PST files with years of archived emails. I cannot for the life of me find out how to add these to the new outlook. Anyone any ideas please as they seem to have made this so hard to do.

Cheers

Hi @carpangler,
1- Click on File
2-Select Account Settings twice
3- Select Data files
4- Add (screenshot)

You might not recall but this way of doing things has not changed in years.
Since we seem to be doing this step so rarely, we tend not to remember.

Hi Oat, ta for the reply. That screen shot is for the existing outlook and not the brand new one. I've done a bit of googling earlier and it seems that the brand new outlook does not support PST files at the moment. How they have released this new Outlook and are trying to get people to switch over to it is unreal. Does anybody know anybody who is using this new Outlook and what they think.
Cheers
Steve

Only the first time now it won't even launch full screen.

New Outlook is very much a beta, currently does not even match the existing Mail App never mind the desktop Outlook. Not compatible with some Email Accounts and lacking in features.
It has always supported IMAP.
Just uninstall it.

The state of play is here:

I don’t believe it currently supports PST files. Microsoft are claiming they are going to incorporate PST use in the future but when, is anyones guess. The truth is, Microsoft want’s your IMAP mail on their servers. No thanks.

Your choices are… purchase Microsoft Office Pro 2021 and use “Classic Outlook” as Microsoft are now calling it.
OR… nope that’s it.

    …still on a horse.
Hi All
Thanks for the replies. I'll stick with full blown outlook on the desktop for now. They are pushing the new outlook way before it's ready to replace full fat outlook. Lots of proper outlook functionality is missing from this, looking at it in more detail last night. It does appear to be a replacement for the old mail app and not proper outlook. Yep I think they do want your mail on there microsoft servers looking at this new outlook. That's not happening and I still want my email on my PST files too as I have years of mail that doesn't need to be on third party servers. I use Ionos for email and at least the new Outlook talks to IMAP servers now as not long ago it didn't. At the microsoft speed it will be years before full fat outlook functionality is replicated :-). They confuse things by having multiple products called the same name. Teams is the same, a right mess.

@OAT

Nothing whatsoever to do with IMAP / POP3.

As many others have posted :

the NEW outlook currently doesn't support .pst files -- it will in the future -- so just switch back to the old version until .pst files are supported.
