Windows Show/Hide Tool is NOT blocked, I just ran it and it works. But I have too encountered some systems that it displays an error message and doesn't work there. I don't know why, in a few systems that doesn't work, I use WAU Manager. In the rest systems I use Show/Hide Tool.

Old versions make no difference as long as they work perfectly. I use some old video tools (2003 era) that work perfectly and I cannot find modern equivalents.

Below is how my taskbar compares to yours. Using ExplorerPatcher on 24H2. Clearly, ExplorerPatcher wins in pure terms of how many icons are able to fit on there. This has always been true about ExplorerPatcher, BTW. It's one of those multiple reasons why I wouldn't switch to StartAllBack if you paid me to switch to it.

@Wolfzz I just installed as an update and it went fine, a couple of things I noticed was I had to reboot even after restarting Explorer as Battery mode and Atomic alarm clock didn't work and I had to turn Atomic alarm back on as a startup item, After reboot all is fine.

It must be because of the resolution, you must be in 4k, here I am in 1600x900, that is, 900p, to compare the bars we have to stay in the same resolution.

I'm still sitting in a state of "Can't install updates" for 24H2. I value EP more than what seems to be one of the worst W11 updates, so I'm just kinda waiting around.
I really wish W11 had a normal taskbar. All I really want is quicklaunch and taskbar items that don't combine. Any advice? Probably just going to go Linux as my main OS and just forget about whatever apps don't work nice with it. Sad times.

I use Explorer Patcher exactly for that. To ungroup the grouped network-sound-power icons so I can customize them. I also had an issue to update Explorer Patcher some months ago. Just manually download the latest version and run it to install. This should fix any issues and update to the latest version.

Thanks, I've had to uninstall and reinstall a few times over the last couple years. I've been waiting because I've read that it is more likely to crash with 24H2. Is this true?

Not the latest versions.

PS: When I tried to upgrade from 23H2 to 24H2, I was warned about Explorer Patcher and wouldn't proceed. I just uninstalled Explorer Patcher, upgraded and then installed it again.

So how did you reduce the icons size and/or icon spacing on the taskbar before Windows 11 came out then? BTW, a reasonably decent 27″ 4k monitor can already be had for about $159-$169 on Amazon.

I don't know if it's true that you've been waiting, but if it's true, you've been waiting for false rumors to stop getting spread across the internet, which boils down to the same as waiting for Chistmas and Easter to coincide. lol

Older versions of Explorer Patcher had incompatibilities in 24H2. That was 2-3 versions ago. Last version and the previous don't have this issue. A known bug for us using Explorer Patcher together with Open Shell is the search box/icon disappearing when there is a screen change (change in resolution, enable/disable second monitor). This can be fixed by switching from search box to icon and vice versa. Another bug is that the taskbar color set in Open Shell is ignored and reverts to the default color when you click to search and remains until you close the search window. Sometimes it is stuck and doesn't change back to the set color in Open Shell. To fix it again you switch from search box to icon and vice versa. Latest version of Explorer Patcher seems to behave a little better for the second bug.

We were talking about crashes, not some cosmetic bugs that affect only a very small group of users. I have been running ExplorerPatcher on 24H2 since October last year. There are no crashes excepting only the explorer process can still randomly crash IF the computer wasn't restarted after changing one or more of those specific ExplorerPatcher settings that require to restart explorer. This has always been the case with ExplorerPatcher, though. So, this definitely isn't limited to 24H2. I don't tend to change these specific settings very often anyway in the first place so, to me, personally, it really doesn't matter.

That being said, disabling the search icon, whipping up an AutoHotKey v2 script that simulates Win+S, and pinning a shortcut to it isn't exactly rocket science or if it is, then people can ask. Also, Open-Shell's taskbar color only gets ignored on the clock, not on any of the other taskbar text elements. Open-Shell's taskbar texture gets ignored on the pinned/running apps area, but you can use Open-Shell's taskbar opacity as an alternative to the texture. If you never turn on the taskbar's autohide, you could also decide to use the opacity in conjunction with editing your wallpaper to integrate your desired taskbar texture directly into your wallpaper as a nice workaround.
