New Version of ExplorerPatcher


Microsoft pushes ads in the default start menu and search box. Replacing these with Explorer Patcher or otherwise doesn't show these ads and they don't like it.

Microsoft was always planning to remove Windows 10 legacy code and doing that created problems with customisation software.

They've been forced to remove incompatible features if they want to stay off Microsoft's blacklist.

Hello!

Every time I update Explorer Patcher and restart File Explorer it closes all my open Explorer windows. This is not very convenient since frequently I have more than five open. Is there any setting to save which windows are open and reopen then automatically after restarting File Explorer?

Thank you in advance.

PS: If it makes any difference I have Windows 10 style in File Explorer because I don't like Windows 11 tabbed version.

Method 1:
This is the slow method, but it seems to work fine, and has been documented by Valinet himself.
Run rundll32 C:\Windows\dxgi.dll,ZZRestartExplorer instead of clicking on the Restart File Explorer link that appears in the bottom left corner of the EP settings window panel. (The latter method is the fast method to restart the explorer.exe process, but closes all File Explorer windows and doesn't automatically reopen them, at least for me.)

Method 2:
Open a Powershell window and run the command below. Don't close the window yet.
$a=(New-Object -ComObject Shell.Application).Windows() |% {$_.Document.Folder.Self.Path}
Next, use the fast way to restart explorer, and wait for your desktop and taskbar to come back.
Finally, in the same Powershell window, run $a |% {explorer "$_"} and then close the Powershell window.

Do you mean that the first method doesn't work for you? Because, if it does not work, then that would indicate that there's either some kind of bug in EP or something else interfering with it, as the first method is a documented feature that actually belongs to EP itself, like I already tried to point out in my previous reply.

I would like to see drag and drop support added to the overflow menu, the ability to pin and unpin programs and to arrange them in a preferred order.

If we're keeping the Windows 11 taskbar going forward.

I'm sure the first method works too (haven't tried), but I need a method to save the open windows before updating Explorer Patcher. That's why I went directly to the second method. I want to save the open windows, update Explorer Patcher and then restore them. I might be wrong but the first method cannot be used for that.

After Win11 updates to 22631.3880, some glitches are showing up on EP 22621.3527.65.1 with Win10 taskbar. Win + X no longer works for me (it produces no result). Win + Tab is also broken. It appears the developer is on the case and these issues will be fixed in a future EP release.

Here I abandoned explorertacher, I'm using startallback, the taskbar is perfect, have you used it?

It works perfect for me on both laptops. After Windows Update moved you to 22631.3880, did you verify that EP added a notification in Notification Center to inform you that it successfully downloaded all the new symbols? If you did not verify this, then simply choosing to reboot will probably do the trick.

One of the main reasons why I don't use StartAllBack is the taskbar. On a 4k screen with Windows Settings | System | Display | Scale at 150%, the minimum taskbar height is too big. So are the taskbar icons and the spacing between them. (Even, after you change the settings to make them small.) If you were visually impaired, maybe it could work.

You don't have the latest version of Explorer Patcher, I am at 22621.3527.65.5 with Windows version 22631.3880 and both Win+X and Win+Tab work properly
