I use PatchMyPC since it has over 500 apps available. Also I use winget from the Powershell (or Terminal) command line for a quick check up for the few that PmPC doesn't cover.

The old PatchMyPC was great but the new one I replaced with UnigetUI.

I like the interface, it looks pretty clean.
Will take a look.
I forgot to add that UnigetUI has its own widget as well.

You can set it to only download and not install, to a folder of your choice in the settings.
I do this myself because I tend to keep the latest versions of all my software, just in case.

I don't use it much, because I have things pretty well automated, but it seems fine. If you want a GUI around this stuff, UniGetUI should probably be on the short list.

I've used NINite for new installs to pick a bunch of the utilities I put on almost any machine I setup. I prefer the automatic options for updating after I have a running system.

For the few programs I have installed, I prefer to take care of updates myself.
I turn off all automatic update switches.

Attached is my initial script to install applications on a fresh PC. The update process is pretty similar, but I'm still getting the notifications how I want them, and the script is ugly.

Just curious. Is there any way to install applications like Office365 automatically? I know that winget (or UniGetAI) doesn't support that.

I'm not surprised package managers would skip Office altogether. There are so many configuration options, it would be impossible to create a default instance that satisfied more than six people.

The best way is probably the Office deployment tool, which requires a little XML shenanigans. This is a sample one to install 64-bit Office and exclude certain apps.

I was wrong

about installing MS Office with winget. Browsing around, I learned about the website winget.run. From this website, I learned that there is in fact a winget command

winget install -e --id Microsoft.Office

To be clear, I have not tried to run this command yet. I need to set up some VMs to test out various package manager before I wipe this mongrel Win 11 install and do a clean install, followed by customization, program installs, etc. etc.
