Yes. Very possible. With this rig I had to turn off Fast Boot in BIOS because it starts up so fast it's almost impossible to get into BIOS with the keyboard!

My immediate curiosity is if Windows Startup.wav contains no sound data in the file, then when it did play the startup sound - where did that come from?

One would assume though, the most important drivers would be running pre-load. Short of checking the BIOS for any relevant sound card adjustments (your on-board realtek) I don’t know how one prioritises a load sequence like that.

Yes, the Zero bytes is interesting.

Search the C: drive for startup sound. Maybe the zero bytes is coded to point somewhere? I’m just blindly guessing.

Oh no! It has bytes. Just in the properties it lists it as 0.00 seconds. There are a few like that. The same on both PCs. When you open them in Winamp or Media Player they also show 0.00 seconds and don't play anything. But the other PC plays the startup sound regularly with that same file. So it has to come from elsewhere?

I checked on my desktop and in File Explorer the Startup.wav file shows a file size of 37.4 KB. When I play it in Media Player the start and end time is 0:00:00 and all I hear is a very short click sound. If you want I'm sure you can find a better startup sound if you do a online search.

I was correct. I typed sounds in Search and there was an option for "Change System Sounds). From there all one has to do is click on what sound they want to change then on Browse. As an example, when I clicked on Notifications > Browse it opened up C:\Windows\Media. From there I could choose whatever sound I wanted.

Are you sure it wasn't playing a different .wav file?

My point being, I suppose, is that if @TVeblen has exhausted options, including Brinks tutorial, then what that link says is true if not for all Ten/Eleven users then at least some or that Unofficial workaround wouldn’t be needed.
Has anyone been able to hear the startup wav or change the startup wav and heard it run at Windows startup?
