Just pulled the trigger on this a few days ago. No idea when I'll get around to installing it. Looks interesting though. Anyone have any experience with one of these? Seems like an easier approach to NVMe in RAID. I'm thinking it might be better suited to my old X99 Work Station.

Gave Dell touch screen with Windows 11 to daughter and got me an OTVOC. Being a PC builder I own many desktop PCs as well. I am a father of five providing PCs, laptops, and tablets for all my family, most of which I have modified, rebuilt, or simply built from scratch. I do not own a cell phone, never have, never will.
I have looked at that Add-in PCIe X16 card and it will not work for me to replace my NAS drive [2 x 2TB drives as RAID 1] which is attached to my Router. The issue lies in the number of computers that have the NAS Mapped for access to stored data. Then there's the cost for the NVMe drives as it can handle the 4 different sizes but a 1TB is still between $75 and $100. Also involved is that it is easier to Map a folder on a NAS drive on a LAN than accessing a drive in a computer. Another thing would be having a motherboard with 2 PCIe X16 slots if not using onboard video.

Yes. That's why I think it would be better suited for my X99 platform. I don't think my HERO has the lanes for it.

I have an MSI B450 tomahawk Max II board which has a gen 3 M2 slot. I bought an M2 nvme 1tb 850X black which is gen 4 and have fitted it to an Asus Hyper M2 X16 card V2. This card has room for 4 off M key cards up to 110mm long. There is a heatsink which can be used optionally, but only if no heatsinks are fitted to the M2 cards. The Asus board fits PCI Express 3.0 x 16 and works in x8 and x16 slots. If this board is considered for raid use, it would be advisable to get up to date details of compatible M2 cards from the Asus website.

I have an ASUS Z690-F MB with two Samsung 990 PROs in RAID 0 in Intel Optane. Samsung Magician only sees a Raid 0 drive, no info on the 990 PROs and no way to update their firmware, and AIDA64 also doesn't see the NVME drives. I'm hoping when I need to I can undo the RAID drive and manage the individual drives which hopefully have the drive contents. I will obviously do a backup before.

The main issue I ran into with RAID 0 and RAID 1 is if 1 drive is disconnected it could break the boot process and probably require reinstall. RAID 0 is striping, both drives considered as one [e.g. 2 x 2GB drives = 4GB], RAID 1 is mirroring, second drive copy of first [2 x 2GB drives = 2GB]. RAID 1 shows as only 1 drive, my NAS has RAID 1 with 2 x 4GB drives for 4GB capacity.

My experience is that the best way to deal with this is to clone the drive with your OS to a NON-RAID drive. After that you can format the other drives to make them non-raid if you wish. If you change the settings in your UEFI you won't be able to boot to your OS.
