As the title says, I installed Windows 11 Pro when I should have installed Home.

Is there a way I can change Pro to Home without jumping through hoops?

I seriously doubt it, but can I change the Windows Key to an old Windows Ultimate key and get Pro to change to Home?

So your 11 Pro is not activated? This PC just has a digital licence for Home?
Yes, it is possible to downgrade from Pro to Home. There is a Ten Forums tutorial for this....

No, that wouldn't help. A Windows 7 Ultimate key is entitled to activate Windows 10 Pro, not Home. It may however activate your Windows 11 Pro with a digital licence if you want to stay with an install of Pro.

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update.

Don't know about now, but when MS gave away free upgrades from 7 to 10, an ultimate license activated Pro. I would think the policy would still be the same now.

Thank you, again, @Bree!

I must have done something wrong when trying to downgrade to Windows 11 Home, but the extra Windows 7 Ultimate key I had activated Windows 11 Pro just fine!

So, my student Jimmy now has Windows 11 Pro on his lappy! BTW, I registered him as BuddyRo (from his lappy) so I could get the tutorial (that didn't work) onto his lappy. ;-) One of his nicknames is Buddy.

Thanks, @Brink.

I don't know what went wrong, but I couldn't downgrade, so I used a key Microsoft had given me from my Windows 7 Beta testing days. Worked like a charm, and a student who will never know the difference now has Windows 11 Pro.

No need to downgrade. Enter ultimate key at "change product key" and it will activate.
Yeah, Bree had told me it most likely would, so I did, and it did! Happy camper here . . .

As the title says, I installed Windows 11 Pro when I should have installed Home.

Is there a way I can change Pro to Home without jumping through hoops?

I seriously doubt it, but can I change the Windows Key to an old Windows Ultimate key and get Pro to change to Home?
For those wanting the pro edition, u don't need to get a home licence, once u downgrade to the home edition reboot it, go to activation enter your pro licence that will upgrade to the home edition.

I suggest once u done the migration from home to pro OTA, I just doing an institute upgrade using a Windows iso as this will install the full update rather than the Limited OTA upgrade
