Hi, I use Windows Terminal as the default app for scripts, but it often happens that certain scripts, especially old ones, don't work well with the new terminal. Is it possible to add "Open script in old CMD" to the Windows 11 context menu? The contextual menu I refer to is the classic Windows one, not the new fluent one.

Windows Terminal is just a interface batch scripts still interpreted by cmd.exe.

Yes I know, I intend to open some scripts in the old cmd.exe interface with Windows Terminal by default

There is only way to do that you will need to uninstall Terminal.

Hello, :-)

You could do either or all of these actions below.

1) Set the default terminal to be "Windows Console Host" instead of "Windows Terminal".

2) Change the default profile for Windows Terminal to open to the "Command Prompt" instead of "Windows PowerShell".

3) Use "Open with" to open the file type with "C:\WINDOWS\System32\cmd.exe".

How: opening conhost.exe will open classic cmd.exe
Welcome to Eleven Forum.

That's a nice helpful opening post. Thanks, I hadn't realised you could do it that way. I've now got it pinned to Start alongside Terminal (y)

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update.

Also, running conhost powershell will open the classic PowerShell console on Windows 11, but I haven't yet figured out how to get the window to open with the blue color.

Sorry. I should have been more clear. I know how to change the settings from the menu. I was trying to find a way to set the configuration on the fly via a command line option.
