Ya, my previous speed was pretty good, it used a Type 'A' connector to the PC & a type 'C' to the T9, the port is a USB 3.1 Gen 2 & the BU was 1.438 TB of data (took 48 minutes) = (1438x1,000)/(48x60)
I am hoping I can get more speed using the above new card & cable.
I will let you know what the results are.

Here are the results of running it on the new StarTech USB 3.2 Card.
The speed went up a tiny amount from 499.42 to 516.5 MB/sec

I think you are being limited by the SATA interface speed limitation. But that is a good speed (y) To get to say 1 GB/s you need nvme to nvme.

If you're going to convert to digital files use a lossless format such as FLAC, which can still be compressed. MP3 is a lossy format, so you lose sonic qualities.

Anyway, congrats on the turntable.

Thanks, Dru2. I try to buy FLAC or convert to FLAC when I can. I'll be doing that for any album we record. While the size is larger, the lossless format is definitely worth it. That's why they make larger hard drives, after all! :D

I definitely agree (y)

That said, as stated earlier, you can compress FLAC files. I think the default compression rate is 6, as it goes from 0 (no compression) to 9 (full compression). I use zero compression for my rips as I want the highest quality possible (some will debate this, but that's "me"), but the cost is large files (same as WAV files). However, I've got lots of storage space so that isn't an issue.

Anyway, when setting up the program to rip in FLAC try a ratio of 6 and see how that fits you.

I just listened to Alice in Chains Facelift on my wife's record player. That's it. I have to have one.

What's a good program to rip vinyl to FLAC, one that breaks the songs into tracks automatically. I know I can record in Audacity, but you have to break up the tracks yourself. I can do this, but I'm looking for a quicker route.

Nothing like the sound of vinyl. They just have a sound quality of their own. Zero harshness that digital can sometimes bring.

I honestly don't know as I'm not ripping vinyl anymore. It's been years since I did one. I only rip CDs as that's all I buy now.

In ripping CDs, I use a program called dBpoweramp (paid). There's also EAC, which is freeware. But I can't say how (or if) they handle vinyl.

When I was recoding vinyl to CD, I had a CD recorder in my stereo system so I didn't need a PC to record a CD. I'd just record the album as two tracks (side A, side B) and import those files to PC into a program called SoundForge and break the files into individual tracks, then re-record to a CD, and rip from there.

I did a few LP's, but, with my old Technics turntable, I had to use a Roxio Box..., the files are okay but not impressive.

I think you need a very expensive cartridge, turntable, amp and speakers to get the best from vinyl. I had such a system once and when there was rain in the background of one album, I felt cold and wet. Now it's just a hiss.

I have hundreds of CDs ripped. Imagine how long it would take to use vinyl as the source and get all the track info, album covers etc.

With a good streaming service like Pandora, almost anything is available. I love the way Pandora will offer 'similar' music to what you like based on human analyses of many factors like tempo, head, modality, solos, swing and many more; it's introduced me to thousands of artists I might never have discovered.

Yeah, having a music CD recorder (Pioneer PDR-509) as part of my stereo system I was able to directly record from turntable to CD....

Would than take the CD to PC, copy and edit the files in Sony's SoundForge Audio Studio 10 to create the individual tracks. Afterward create a CD from my PC, and whalla... album on CD. Since I use re-writable CDs, I could use them over and over when recording to the Pioneer.
