Not exactly that but I have noticed that it randomly shuts down and freezes regularly. It also sometimes black screens and then....after about 2 minutes shuts down when it feels like it. All the drivers are up to date. I switched off the power management in the Arc Touch Bluetooth mouse, and I set the all power options to never shut down but no joy. In the Event Viewer all i can see is a Kernel Power error. After following that up I did a compete hardware check with HP diagnostic tools which found no problems. I then ran sfc /scannow which found no errors. It cannot be the hardware as it is all new....deliberately (and forcibly new in fact) for Windows 11. I am running 10.0.22000.194 on a HP Envy 17 cg1000na, 32GB RAM and a 2TB Crucial CT2000P5PSSS8. They better fix it soon as I am not the only one (just check the web) and the s**t is really gonna hit the fan on October 5th.

Yes forcibly for my job. I appreciate your links and have seen a few of them. They are a few things left to try but not many. The irony is that Microsoft force people to have Windows 11 ready hardware but in fact Windows 11 itself is not hardware ready if you look at their own hardware list. Take my two identical machines for example which are HP and have 11th gen processors (on their list as approved) but the chipsets for the board they use does have no Windows 11 drivers to see hard drives during the installation. I should not have to go searching for the correct Intel RAID drivers and include them on the bootable USB. What is this rubbish? Are we back in the dark ages of Windows 95 and the ATAPI less world, where back then you also had to go looking for drivers just to make your CD-ROM work? It is pretty embarrassing and shoddy in this day and age..

You mentioned finding this error all of the internet? Where?

All I found were errors associated with Win 10 and they all seem to be hardware related and I suspect that HP hasn't caught up with releasing new drivers for 11. I suspect that is your issue.. drivers that aren't compatible for one reason or another.

(The fix in the above link does not work for me brw)

And so on and so on.....
I'm hoping the 5th October release rips its brains out and replaces it with something a bit smarter that works.

I still have a suspicion that it's a driver issue more than anything else. Most of the solutions point to driver/hardware issue and not an OS issue.
Best of luck

i also found that window 11 os build 22000.194 drains the battery very quick if you unplug it, so i suspect window 11 is more power hungry, no joke when i say this but the battery did not last long i will test it again and put up the test result later

These type of issues often appear with development level operating systems, it is of course up to the hardware supplier to provide working drivers for their operating system of choice. Some hardware manufacturers have in the past used a windows major update to sell more product by releasing new hardware that works with the new OS but not developing drivers for older hardware.

This does not usually occur with the major hardware companies but what can cause issues is when they are "late to the party" they do not start developing drivers retrospectively until the newest hardware is completed and working. This is obviously more of an issue at this time of year with the OS being made available on fairly short notice for the upcoming holiday period.

Not sure of the spec of your specific system, but it's normal for developers to work Top down through the range that they decide to support retroactively the top of the range flagship device gets attention first and so on down the range

It may be a case of checking with the manufacturer of the hardware and staying with Windows 10 until they catch up - 10 is available for four more years so they may well use this as an excuse

Are you using Win10 or Win11 drivers, and are they from the hardware manufacturer? I recall there were some similar issues when Windows 10 was released, those upgrading found similar to you but it was sorted pretty quickly after the official release, at least on the major brands - can't say this was true for all devices

That is more difficult, there are basic level drivers supplied in the OS installer, but of course these will be the latest drivers available from the hardware manufacturers at the time the build was compiled - so could still be the current Windows 10 drivers. (microsoft does not write any drivers for Windows except for the drivers for their own hardware (Surface, MS Mouse Etc.)

All I can suggest is keep checking the manufactures' support, they will develop new drivers or a fix before they provide them to Microsoft so are the quickest route

Hi there
Basic almost universal SATA and AHCI drivers have been around for years -- at least those should be able to recognize basic HDD/SSD drives these days so at least the OS would be installable. After OS is installed then one can hunt / install for specific drivers.

Why on earth do both writers of the OS and hardware manufacturers make things so complex when they don't need to be.

When was the last time any sensible Linux distro failed to see any sort of Hard Disk device even on the latest hardware !!!!

OK the initial drivers might not be the most efficient but at least the OS gets installed from which all sorts of updates can be done.

As a previous poster said - this is going back to the days of having to install a CD driver before you could read the CD ROM to install W95/W98 !!!

"We have Yesterday's technology for you TODAY " ..,.

Cheers
jimbo

Have to assume this is a mispost, this thread has nothing to do with SATA AHCI or Hard drives

I would suspect that some Hardware manufacturers may not be releasing Win11 specific drivers until Win11 is actually released.

Me too, unfortunately there will be some who will not start the development process until the existing Windows 10 drivers are proven not to work when the OS is on General release, which should be only a minority, there are always some who wait until the last moment, for whatever reason

I still wonder what the OP did to his setup,.,, customization wise. Instability likely cause his issues or drivers. I doubt that Win11 itself caused them. All of the links he supplied that report the issue are for an old build.. .176 and not the current one on the Beta or Dev channel.

👨‍💻 I think we're going to see a lot of these, it's broke fix it, threads in the future.

Jeff, you've been coming to these forums for a while, that happens every time there's a New OS there are issues for some, I've got to a stage now where I'll try to help where I can but most of it just washes over me.
I can remember people when Windows 7 came out and later when Windows 10 was released - and now they are spoken about as the best OS ever - it's really a case of "Been There, Done That, got the T-shirt
