Hi there,

Hope all are well.

I have lost page numbering on all my MS Word 2021 documents and on the status bar page number label appears dull.

Any expert help would be highly appreciated.

I would test with a scrap document.

Make a three page new document and put something like this: ah8rvyierhg83457 on each page.

Do you have the page numbers on the test doc?


Or are there NO page numbers on any doc you create or open?



In other words is Word broken or is the document you're working on broken?

@Edwin , I did as you recommended, got 4 options, add to quick access tool bar added but still the same, the 2nd option is customize the Ribbon. I think i must have accidently checked/ unchecked some here.........Thanks anyways.

I found these. Talking about Page Number tab being greyed out.

Actually, the feature dims in Web Layout & Outline Views... It should be available in bothDraft View & Print Layout View. If you use it while in Draft View the program will switch automatically to Print Layout View.

Ah, well, once it was pointed out to me that I was working in 'web mode' and I changed to the usual page view all was well!
