I tried to install paragon backup and restore but made some mistakes I hope you can help me with. I do have macrium reflect backed up but I'm looking at a different backup and restore because Macrium will be discontinued January of 24 for the free version that is.
First, is it ok to make an installation disc of Win 11 to use as the rescue media b/c I did that for Paragon..
Second while installing Paramount B+R it sad it would format the external drive which I have sensitive information on. I stropped at that point. With macrium the whole external drive is only consumed when you clone but I planned to image with paragon.
I watched You Tube prior to downloading Paragon.
Any corrections appreciated.

You can use free Macrium for as long as you want.
You will not get any updates for it I believe, and no further development of that version will be offered.

You most likely selected to clone the drive. Cloning wiped the target drive and then copies all data from the source to the target. Select to create a backup instead (copy all data from the source to one or more backup files at the target drive). This should not affect any existing files on the target drive.

I am fine now that Macrium is not ended. I do use installation media on a flash drive and never within the program. I do not know what a Macrium's end of free means to me; I would assume I could not reinstall it were I needed to do so. Also, I have no support in the interim once ended.
I tried Paragon but the recovery media was a disaster. Two popular programs were based in China and make me leery. - EaseUs and Aomei.

End of free version means that any newer version will be paid. But as soon as you keep a copy of the free version you can use it forever until it gets obsolete. So don't worry be happy, as the song goes.

most of your pc parts were made in China, you must be very leery.

Made in China usually means cheap, but cheap doesn't necessarily means of bad quality. There are many top quality Chinese products. When Xiaomi mobiles first appeared in Greece many avoided them because it was an unknown brand and didn't want to risk it. Today Xiaomi has a very good reputation. "Don't judge to not be judged", as the Bible says.
