Hi,

I'm trying to get Direct Storage to work. When I run "fsutil bypassIo state d:\" I get the following,

BypassIo on "d:\" is partially supported
Volume stack bypass is disabled (ntfs.sys)
Storage Type: Spaces
Storage Driver: Not BypassIo Compatible

Anyone know what this means?
I have updated BIOS, CPU and GPU drivers.

What am I looking at exactly? I'm a bit of layman when comes to this stuff.
The driver volmgr.sys is blocking it?

BypassIo on "d:\" is partially supported
Volume stack bypass is disabled (ntfs.sys)
Status: 50 (The request is not supported)
Reason: The IOCTL_STORAGE_MANAGE_BYPASS_IO operation failed

For instance:

DirectStorage will NOT work properly on your current D:\ drive.

Possible rasons:
• The drive is part of a Storage Spaces pool, which is incompatible with BypassIO.
• The volume stack (ntfs.sys) does not allow I/O bypass due to virtualization.
• The underlying driver (volmgr.sys) is not BypassIO-compatible.
• The request failed with status code 50: “The request is not supported”.

Possible options to enable DirectStorage:
• Use a dedicated, physical NVMe SSD (not part of Storage Spaces).
• Format it with NTFS.
• Ensure it uses a compatible storage driver (e.g., stornvme.sys).
• Avoid RAID, USB enclosures, or virtual disk pooling.

Thanks for your help! Removing it from the storage spaces and setting up the volume again via disk management has fixed my problem.

I did wonder if spaces was the problem but couldn't find a clear answer until ChatGPT stated. I didn't want to redownload all the games I had on there to test.
