That would actually be 25H2 ('H2' for 2nd half of the year). And no, it looks like it will be a minor upgrade.

Rumour has it that the 26200 series of builds in the Dev channel are the basis for 25H2. If so, then it means that the update to 25H2 will be a small enablement package (as was the 22H2>23H2 update).

It’s also very likely that Windows 11 25H2 will be a minor release, not as big as Windows 11 24H2, because it’s based on Build 26200, a minor leap from Build 26100.

Microsoft has previously used the same strategy for Windows 11 23H2, which was an enablement package for Windows 11 22H2.

I believe you’re right, Gary

So I restarted. It was a quick re-start, I'm on 23H2 22631.5189 and updates are paused for 5 weeks. So clearly it did manage to cancel the 24H2 update and pausing updates worked once I restarted.

There have been no "h1" upgrades in 11. They have been yearly, coming out in the fall, so it's expected to be designated 25h2 and be released in Sept. of Oct. of this year..
You mentioned printers. Most printers that worked in 10 should will work in 11. However, There have been reports that some very old printers do not. You might check the printer manufacturer support site.

Your core hardware should be compatible.. WU would not be offering the upgrade if it wasn't. Know, though, certain peripherals like a touchpad may or may not need updated drivers to continue to work. Most upgrade issues are caused by drivers. While most 10 drivers will work with 11, there may be some you have that won't. I looked at the support page for your laptop. Other than one bios update, HP has not updated any drivers for that device since 2020.

Can anyone give you a 100% guarantee that you can upgrade and not have any problems afterward? No. No one can. You have to perform the upgrade to find out.

Not that it will help you now that the upgrade is already installed waiting on a restart, but there is a way to pause updates for 20 years. See option 2 here.

Thanks. It didn’t upgrade . See above. I have akready upgraded my spare laptop (recently) which is identical except it’s 1035G4 as opposed to 1035G1. Not sure if that will make a difference. Main issue I had with that was graphics. I had to get the latest intel graphics driver. After that Windows tried to install a different Intel graphucs driver which didn’t work as well so I replaced it with the latest one from Intel again.. However I haven’t really tried much out with it as it’s a spare laptop. I’m considering whether to do an image on my main laptop now and upgrading to 24H2. Or whether to put it off longer.

Nope I’m not upgrading yet. My spare laptop is still having graphics issues. Screen flashing and going black. It settles after a restart but happens intermittently.

Yes HP hasn’t released any new drivers for W11. Occasionally though, HP software components arrive in Windows updates. I’ve had to rely on Intel graphics drivers for some time.

I have a 10th gen Dell myself. I use Intel Driver Support Assistant to keep all my Intel drivers updated. I get them hot off the presses as soon as Intel releases them. I manually run it once a month.
I'm paranoid about letting WU handle any of my drivers. While most times it may be OK, WU has been known to install older drivers sometimes, especially graphics. And to allow WU to handle my uefi bios updates, I shiver....fu-get-abut-it. Not happening as long as I have any say-so about it. But that's just me.

Looks like Windows reverted the graphics driver to a 2020 one again (this is on my soare laptop). Will try updating it to the latest Intel one again …..

So no I’m not ready for this for my main laptop yet.

I bypass that possibility by always running Dell | Command Update before running Windows Update.

The 1035G1 has Intel UHD Graphics, while the 1035G4 has Intel Iris Plus Graphics.

The Intel Core i5-1035G4 @ 1.10GHz is newer than Intel Core i5-1035G1 @ 1.00GHz and is around 8% faster in multi-threaded (CPU Mark) testing. However the CPUs have comparable single-thread rating.....

We all do it the way we do it. I learned a long time ago what I feel comfortable with doesn't agree with everyone else.
My drivers/bios/hardware firmware are controlled 100% by Dell Command Update and Intel Driver Support Assist. Yes I could get by with DCU alone, but it sometimes takes new Intel Graphics, wireless, and ethernet drivers 1-2 months after Intel releases them before they show up through DCU and I want them as soon as they are released by Intel.

Understood! And, of course, you and I are both running very different hardware even though both are engineered and supported by Dell.

The only place I saw graphics issues in 24H2 were in one particular program (browser). Shutting off hardware acceleration in that program cured it. FWIW.

Windows seems to have a habit of trying to install older drivers after you update to newer ones via Intel. I had the same issue recently with my display driver (not the same one as yours). You can set a Group Policy in Win 11 Pro that will prevent Driver Updates.

After weeks of annoying subtle behaviors and oddities with Windows Update Group policies, I finally just gave in and switched over to WAU Update Manager. It's like pulling out a splinter that's been keeping you in pain for a week.

Thanks Bree - yes I checked that. It's the same Intel graphics driver for both though.

It's not that I don't like 24H2 - but it just doesn't seem stable yet on my laptops. I decided to clean install 24H2 on the spare laptop today as it was an upgrade previously. It all went well. However it just bluescreened while idle. All I had been doing was reading an email earlier. Nothing else installed on it. I had been using it for about an hour and then just left it switched on.

I also noticed on my main laptop that Windows has replaced the new Intel graphics driver with the old 2020 one as well.

It makes me think Windows are deliberately trying to make me upgrade to a new laptop by causing graphics issues! I don't want to. So I hope 24H2 becomes more stable on my laptop by November. But for now I'm keeping my main one on 23H2.

I think someone mentioned a way of preventing Windows changing the graphics driver? If I could do that I could test it for a while on the spare laptop and see if it becomes stable.

But for now - bluescreening for no reason at all while the computer was idle is not good. Maybe some Windows Update installed in the background?

However as it was newly installed I hadn't yet installed the latest Intel graphics driver. Without it, it black screens and blue screens. But if I install it, it just replaces it again with the 2020 one.

Aside from that, it's very slightly laggy now and then, and if you accidentally open copilot there doesn't seem to be any way of getting rid of it again (assume the red cross is off screen at the top?)

I am not happy that 23H2 will be ending in a few months, if there is nothing stable I can replace it with. My laptop is hardly ancient.

By any chance, do you know if the laptop went to sleep during the time it was left on and did it bluescreen right as you were waking the system? If so, that's a common problem caused by Fast Startup. Just to be clear, I mean Windows Fast Startup, not any BIOS settings related to a fast startup. In fact, I have an HP and an ASUS that exhibit this exact behavior.

To turn off fast startup press WinKey + R, in the Run box type control powercfg.cpl and hit <ENTER>. Click Choose what the power buttons do

Click Change settings that are currently unavailable

Uncheck (deselect) Turn on fast startup (recommended)

Click Save changes

NOTE: I have read the entire thread, so if this next part was already mentioned, my apologies.

Some laptops have customizations made by the OEM to the display drivers. Such systems don't like the generic drivers from Intel, AMD, or Nvidia. If at all possible, start your testing by using the driver supplied by the OEM for your system. If that all works well you could try upgrading to the latest generic driver and see if that reintroduces the problem.

Another Note: I have one particular system that does not like the generic Intel drivers. It wants the driver that HP supplied. However, on that system I have found that if I first install the driver supplied by HP and then upgrade to the generic Intel display driver, that will work. I just cannot install the generic driver right from the start, I have to use the HP driver and upgrade it.
