I am wondering what percentage of computer users have paused their update especially in view of the last fiasco.
I don't know if it is a wise practice.

I've paused them for a week or two when the fiasco's get frustrating, but, then I get bored really fast! :p

Security updates will still come through.

Heck, you can pause em for a year if you feel like it!
Just gotta Resume em if the need arises.

I use the advanced option to pause for 35 days and then watch and see how a CU plays out. If, after a week or so and things are OK, I will unpause and allow WU to do its thing.

I agree with post 5, just a fewer number of weeks. This way if there is a bad update, I have time while it's being patched but still have critical coverage.

No, I've never delayed one. Most screwy updates affect some machines and not others, I meet them head on and go ahead and apply them on update Tuesday. If one goes haywire , I work it out. If all goes well, I don't have to worry about it any more. I mark my calendar for the Monday before update Tuesday and make myself a backup. Patch Tuesday time for me is noon so while I'm drinking my coffee that morning I disable AV to make for a smoother experience. Later in the day, if that month's update hasn't automatically applied, I do it myself.
I never apply cumulative previews. only the release updates.

Using a program like Macrium or Acronis saves the day for me. If there is a miscue I just recover to a date the pc worked welI - think.
Still I like to avoid trouble and use my time constructively. (y)
