PCie 3.0 Processor & Motherboard

Would a newer video card like Zotac 3060 12GB PCIe 4.0 work fine on my Desktop if i should buy this card at some point in the future? Desktop specs are Gigabyte B460M-DS3H, Intel 10700, 32GB of DDR 4 2666mhz Ram, and Geforce 1660 Super (currently) and Evga G3 650 Watt--Current Case Thermaltake V200 TG RGB

Or would it be better trying to get out to local Microcenter and going for a bundle of New Case, Motherboard, CPU and Ram, and Power supply to run it all?

Youtube Comments while watching a Live Stream of a Tech Youtuber stated your Intel 10700 is Pcie 3, and newer video card is Pcie4.0, so it won't work well--think there wrong, but wanna verify

I have no personal experience with it, but here are some tests. The tests are all game based. They were performed with an RTX 3080, which might be more demanding than a 3060.

Short answer: the performance loss with PCI-E 3.0 is trivial to small.

Ohh Excellent! then actually i don't have too much to worry on in that case. As 10700 Processor meets my needs for Cores and speed at moment, just video card and power supply ideally need to get upgraded when i can at moment.

Though might do a case upgrade possibly first for better cooling than this Thermaltake V200 has currently

Then Video and Power supply possibly after that is current plan i think now

It's likely that you won't need to replace your PSU just to upgrade the graphics card. The I7-10700 is rated at 65W, assuming that it's not the 10700k (125W). The RTX 3060, 170W. A good 650W PSU should have plenty of margin. Your eVGA PSU is good, if its specs are to be believed.

On the other hand, PSUs are relatively cheap. If it makes you feel better, upgrade it.

You also need to factor in the aging of the PSU, but for the future build you have in mind the recommended PSU wattage is only 500W so still way better than good. You might want to consider adding a pair of 140mm fans in the top of the case, and, if you can swing it, maybe also grab a 3060 Ti instead of a 3060.

Yeah PSU originally purchased in February 2018, used in my former Asus G11CD Intel I7 7700 build, now the Intel 10700 build

Cpu cooler is Arctic Freezer 7x (not my first choice from stock lga 1200 cooler upgrade in May 2022, was gonna use be quiet pure rock 2, failed at installing myself, so took PC to shop that built it and settled on that cooler)

Can add top 140mm exhaust fans soon as can, do they have to be Thermaltake branded fans?, or can they be another brand?

Will see if I can swing 3060Ti

If prices was more reasonable lately I'd maybe even opt for Case, Motherboard\CPU and Ram upgrade to 13th Gen Intel

But guess for now keeps this 10th gen, does as many improvements as I can and just enjoy system and performance does have for Productivity and Gaming

You can add fans of any make. Some people worship fans from Noctua. (Expensive, though.) The choice can be fairly complex: air flow vs. noise.

The only exceptions I'm aware of are some RGB fans with proprietary connectors that plug into a fan controller rather than motherboard headers.

Yeah my 3 Front Fans are Proprietary, Probably will go with standard 140mm top fans when i buy those, possibly Arctic Max Pro possibly, do have 1 more Motherboard Fan Header available, if i did install 2 top 140mm fans, think be fine with a fan splitter, and plug them into that one header

Then all fan headers used on this motherboard

Honestly my next case will hopefully be all standard fans or maybe standard fans with a Fan Controller, at least easily replaceable if went bad, unlike these Thermaltake V200 TG RGB Front fans as they don't sell these separate from the case if one was to go bad lol

I wonder whether your front case fans are really proprietary? I don't have the case. I've use a Corsair AIO cooler. The fans had standard 4 pin connectors, but also had separate connectors for RGB.

I've also not used a splitter. One alternative is a hub. The link is to a $10 unit, also made by Arctic. Works well.

Well According to Forums and Youtube videos watched on my Case, The Thermaltake V200 TG RGB Fans, are 6 Pins for the 3 Front fans, and will only work with there Controller that came with Case. Though i never disconnected one to verify for myself, but i should to clean them better next time i do dust clean out.

Will check out the Hub option as well

(will inspect the cables on next dust clean out closer) for the 3 Front Fans)

It's likely enough that Thermaltake would use a proprietary connector for RGB fans that connect to a controller. I haven't encountered it in life, but I've seen it online.

I admit to a mild allergy to YouTube instructional video. I'd rather read than watch. (If you haven't guessed, I'm old.) I've had a hard time adapting to the idea that there are people making high six figure incomes on YouTube doing what aren't much better than unboxing videos.

No experience with Palit.

I had good luck with a 10GB Zotac RTX 3080. Have since handed it down. If my nephew has had trouble with it, he hasn't told me.

Its not that either or terrible or anything, I'd rate Zotac higher than palit, Just personally seem a lot more issues with those two brands than most others, Like AsRock, Wouldn't touch it with a bargepole

Will Definitely check those out, as right now the Rear exhaust fan is another stock fan that came with case lol, Ideally i'd replace even front ones if they weren't hard to get to, and be if i had a ARGB motherboard then i'd just get different ARGB Fans, and run them off the board, and control with software the colors

But sadly this Motherboard has No ARGB connection lol, so in order to control the Fan colors have to use button thats tied to controller these fans are connected to lol

Well typically i top out when running games for the CPU at least no higher than 85C, and that was when i had Battlefield 2042 Open (probably the highest spec needing game i run on this system

Video card temp showed 77C when i had that game open last night for just over an hour, keep in mind Ambient temps are pretty cool right now and hasn't warmed up too much as yet.

So guess current fans are doing a pretty decent job, M.2 SSD been up to 61C while running the game--even though game isn't even installed on that M.2, Game is installed on Sata 1TB 860 Evo drive

Keep in mind before i upgraded CPU Cooler in May 2022 i was topping out when i ran Battlefield 4, then Battlefield 2042 at about 93-95C, (That was with Intel LGA 1200 Stock cooler at the time)

So guess cooling isn't too bad right now, and i keep system as dust free as i can, typically dusted out every 2-3 weeks or at least every month, as can't access rear psu filter unless lay case on its side to detach it

Note with Core Isolation Active (was autoly activated after my last Windows 11 Pro Clean Install) Hardware monitor doesn't exactly monitor the CPU Clocks right, as no way it got up to the speed it says for Max Speed while was in the game lol, i don't have that great of a cooling system lol) *if its wise to turn that off, then i will do that, but for now I've left on

Highest Temp while playing Firefighter Simulator the Squad for CPU was 81C

GPU and Hot Spot also listed, VRM also in the screen shot as well
