OS
win 11
The laptop I am using now (Acer Aspire 317-52) shuts down the integral keyboard If the PS-2 keyboard driver is installed. I do not use an outboard keyboard. I delete the driver but it returns every couple of days. I don't remember it doing this before it upgraded to win 11. It is getting pesky. Does anyone have a solution to fix the problem?

Try just disabling the driver, instead of uninstalling, so WU won't install it again.

First download the Windows Update Show/Hide Tool. Then uninstall the driver, run the Tool and hide (block) the driver update and any other update you might not want. That's it.

Windows 11 doesn't have a disable function in the device manager. This problem is driving me nuts. Either 11 or my computer won't tolerate the existence of two drivers. The problem didn't occur when this laptop was running 10. I appeared with the upgrade to 11 so I assume the problem is a bug in 11. Perhaps someone can tell me where the ps2 keyboard driver is stored in 11 so I can delete it.

No, the problem is not updates. The problem is that I can't stop windows from reloading the PS2 keyboard driver every time I reboot the computer. On my system, Windows eleven won't allow any keyboard input when both drivers are active. There is some advice I've found on the internet but none of it has done the job. I suspect it is a bug in 11.

Dead positive. I can uninstall it but windows just re-installs it later when there is a reboot. Hopefully an update will fix the problem, assuming it is not the computer's firmware causing it.

What if you update the driver manually and select a generic PS/2 keyboard? Does that fix the issue?

What if you update the driver manually and select a generic PS/2 keyboard? Does that fix the issue?
Windows tells my driver is current.

Disable PS/2 port service from the Command Prompt

As most laptops are internally connected through the PS/2 ports, you can also disable the service that controls this port and effectively disable the keyboard. Here’s how you can do so:
Press Start, type cmd, and click on Run as administrator.
win-11-disable-keyboard-36.png

Type in the following command to disable the PS/2 port service:
sc config i8042prt start= disabled
win-11-disable-keyboard-37.png

Press Enter. Once you get the “ChangeServiceConfig SUCCESS” message, you can be sure that your PS/2 port service is now disabled and your keyboard won’t work the next time you reboot your system.

If you want to re-enable the PS/2 port service, type the following command:
sc config i8042prt start= auto
win-11-disable-keyboard-39.png

Then press Enter

Not sure you should though. Hope it helps.

1 Run CMD as Admin as specified above

If the keyboard stops working after stopping the service, download and run this batch file:

:: Run as Admin (if not to)

sc start i8042prt

:: Finished
echo.
echo Operation completed.
echo Press any key to exit.
