Only accessing the latest photos is a feature of Phone Link. It is the same for all phones used with it. I only use Phone Link for the latest photos. I connect the phone with a USB cable to access all the photos.

Good to see you have it working. Now on to your next challenge.

Not entirely true...I can access everything on my high end Samsung phone but it probably cost 3-10 times more than most peoples phones.

Mike,

I don't use Phone link. I use MyPhoneExplorer. In addition to manual file copying with my Android, it can run one-way & two-way syncing including my MSOffice Outlook Calendar, Contacts, Notes & Tasks.

I stand corrected. I can see all the photos on my high end Samsung S21 5G phone. The problem is the interface. They only show photos in large preview form. It is hard to tell what photo was taken when you have to scroll through thousands of photos. If I could switch to another view like Details in Filer Explorer I could find older photos more easily. With the current interface I have to be content to just look for recent photos in Phone Link. Otherwise, I have to use something else like connecting using USB so that the much more flexible Windows File Explorer is available.

MyPhoneExplorer also allows you to browse your phone and its display includes file dates & times.

Thanks. I knew about MyPhoneExplorer but forgot all about it. I will start using it again as an alternative to using a USB cable. For everyday use I will continue to use Phone Link. I am sure the OP will appreciate that also.

Note with MyPhoneExplorer you have the choice of connecting to the phone with WiFi, Bluetooth, or USB cable. I find a WiFi connection best for me.

I'm still on MPE v1.9.0
I have additional connection options

Which MPE version is shown in your diagram?
[I can see that I downloaded MPE v2 last September but have never got around to installing it.]

I generally connect to my phone's WiFi hotspot [which is also my network's internet connection] but use a USB cable & File explorer if I know I'm going to be transferring large files.

You only have 400MB of photos there. You could have just moved them to One Drive of GDrive then download to PC.
But at least you fixed your problem. All good.

I have MyPhoneExplorer 2.0.

What connect options MPE shows depends upon what menu option you initially select

Connect (F1)
Settings > Connection (F2)

That's after I deleted most after copying with help of laptop and W10 and SD was so full I coudn't save any more on it.

My MPE shows no connection dialog [just a progress bar] so I didn't realise that our diagrams were of different things.

It is possible that the OP has more than 400MB of photos. He may also have some photos on the built-in storage.

When I had a Samsung S7 phone nothing got put on the SD card initially. All data got saved on the built-in storage. I found out I had to manually one app at a time configure them so that they stored data on the SD card. Since I delayed doing that for a month or two there were two locations where the photos and screenshots were saved. One DCIM folder was on the built-in storage while the other DCIM folder was on the SD card.

At the time I know that some phones used the built-in storage plus the SD card as if they were combined. My Samsung phone did not. I don't know if that is still true.

At least one of my Samsung phones [A40 / A52] asked me whether to combine them or not the very first time I put the MicroSD card in it.
I never looked through its settings to see if it could be done later on instead.

Not only possible but it is a 16GB micro SD card inherited from my old phone (Lumia 640 with W10) which had very limited storage space. it was set to store photos in SD card and was filled to limit. Most was backed up on PC. It was time to empty it out.

I just checked my old laptop. It has MPE 1.9.0 on it. It has the same two Connect menus on it.

The first Connect menu only appears when there is no phone connected. After that if you want to change the connection you have to use Settings > Connection. Note after a phone is connected the first Connect option (F1) is still there but it only serves as a Connect/Disconnect function.

However, if you delete the Phone (i.e. User) from MPE then the first Connect menu comes back.

I see they changed that in Android with your phone. With my Samsung S7 I didn't have that option.

With the combined storage I see some downsides. Does that mean the phone won't use the SD card for photos until the build-in storage is full? The problem is that a lot of apps only use the internal-storage. If there is no space left on the internal storage then does that mean you won't be able to install any more apps?
