Solved Photoshop CS5 - desactivation not successful :(

@archphoto
That's really interesting. I'll come back from my laptop.
I don't understand what you mean by : "Still wound up with the subscription version of PS in the end."
Would be nice if you could clarify, please ?

You're saying that even in a virtual box it could not work ?
But Photoshop is activated on my old PC, I would not have to activate again...

I have CS2 running on Windows 11, if you want that, it's abandonware but works perfectly.

The activation servers for CS5 are gone so one cannot activate or de-activate the software anymore. Adobe will not help you with it either.

@kapriss,
Would that help you?

Nice from you, I'll have a look at them. Have always used Corel WP !

But I see that they don't have what I use most in Photoshop : the layers !
I have downloaded Gimp, seems somewhat clumsy (else it's me who's clumsy...) but I'm furious to have the CS5 stolen from me, I bought it !!!!
abandonware but works perfectly.
What's abandonware ?
I have had CS2..... ages ago !!!

Hi Kapriss -
Even though I got CS6 to work on my then new computer, some things were still too small to read normally. Also, the subscription for PS was so cheap (which also comes with LightRoom, Camera Raw, and Bridge), at around $10/mo, that it did not make sense to not upgrade to it. While Adobe used to create a new version almost yearly, a lot of people would wait until the following year to upgrade, and it would usually cost around $250 to do so. That was amortized as around a little more than $10/mo. The subscription version gets updates on a regular basis. While CS5, which I also had, may be enough if you're doing simple things, the CC version has so many tools that can make life easier, like the "Remove Tool," or the "Select Object Tool," just to name some. It also allows the use of Adobe's AI to change the image or background and make whole new images, if you're so inclined. Each new iteration is better than the last, so far. And, you don't have to update, if you don't want to, to the newest version. I resisted for a long time, but I am glad I made the switch.
BTW, there is an option to pay for it by the year, which is what I do. Good luck!

You didn't have to tell us; and there is sure no shame in that. You are probably very proficient in other areas.
I hear your backhanded remark, but I'm proficient in this area as well.
The activation servers for CS5 are gone so one cannot activate or de-activate the software anymore. Adobe will not help you with it either.
Yet they get repped while I get chided for basically saying to same. Hypocrisy.

@archphoto
I tried the "High DPI Scaling Override" but it did not change anything.
It’s really only a small annoyance as I am familiar with the tools I most use and the display on my laptop is very sharp.
I am using Photoshop too little to consider a new version. Even paid yearly !
As I said, the CS5 is perfect for my needs, and I’m sure I’m hardly using half of its possibilities.
Still, I wish I could use it on my PC...

I uploaded it to my OneDrive, if you want.
1- Unzip
2- run the program installer PhSp_CS2_English.exe
3- Once installed, run cs2.exe in \CS2-Patcher\dist\ folder (it will bring it up to date and compatible with win 11)
4- Apply the serial number inside the serial.txt file after launching the program for the first time.

5- You are ready to use CS2.

Abandonware.... That’s really precious information you gave me.
You’ve been so very helpful ! 🙏
THANK YOU !
I got CS2 from TECHSPOT before I saw your post ! I shall also save the installer....
I installed it and it opens the projects I had ongoing with CS5 without any problem !
That’s really great.

I now need to stop the Registration and AdobeUpdater screens popping up each time I open the app. 🙄

I want to thank all those who posted here. I hope you all had a fine week end ! 😊
I’ll now mark this thread as solved.

....and this is why I ditched Photoshop and went with GIMP, which does everything I need to do with images on a lot less bloat, without having to be online.
I never could get used to the UI in Gimp, just my preference I guess.

It does take some getting used to but there are tons of tutorials and lessons on youtube.

I can understand that. Photoshop UI is a lot more intuitive. I guess I just can't understand why people pay for something when there's software that can do it for free. For me the money saved was worth the effort to learn how to use it properly. It's amazing what you can do with GIMP if you know a little Python.
