Windows 11
This might be simple but i would be grateful if someone could help me out.

I want to add a shortcut on the start menu for "Check for Updates". I managed to do it on Windows 10 but with 11 i cant seem to be able to "pin to start" a shortcut so i can check for windows updates.

Thanks.

Hello, :)

You should be able to use the same shortcut from Windows 10 below to Pin to Start in Windows 11.

just tried this on my Win11 public release fully updated. If I place the shortcut on my desktop or in any folder like documents when i right click on it there is no option to pin to start. I can pin it to the taskbar but thats about it.

Hello, :-)

Odd. If you create the shortcut on your desktop using option 2, do you have a "Pin to Start" option when you right click on the shortcut?

I just tested on my W11, and it does for me.

Strange. If you click on "Show more options" in the context menu, do you then see a "Pin to Start" option?

I have Pin To Start on first menu and Pin To Taskbar on the second menu if I create the shotcut. I do however have another issue. The command does not open the update check anymore. If I change windowsupdate-action to just windowsupdate, it opens the update page, but for the former it defaults to the Main Settings View.

The "Check for updates" is no longer valid in Windows 11.

Only the ms-settings:windowsupdate option instead now.

If you download and use Windows Automatic Update Manager, you can pin it to the Taskbar and check for updates yourself whenever you want.
I personally, do not like windows update running all the time. It generates way too many files in the Log folder. This option works fine in W11 too.

The 2022 update has broken my "Check For Updates" shortcut. Can anyobe help me how to fix it? Now it takes me directly to the settings page instead of the check for update page.

Thanks

I have created a shorcut with the "ms-settings:windowsupdate" command and it works. But the option to "Pin to Start" is not available :(

You can use "explorer ms-settings:windowsupdate-action" instead to have the "Pin to Start" option. :-)

Hello Brink how are you

I have tried that but the shortcut sends you to the main settings window.

Any ideas?
