This thread has gone completely sour on us, and the wags who have horned in and begun pun-ishing us for steering it badly probably want to milk it for all it's worth, rather than herding it back to the OP's topic. I think we should just put the thread out to pasture and close the gate.

MR did win the poll, but my guess it didn’t change anyone from using what they have always used. The poll just reflects the opinion of folks that already use MR. I use duplicators, does MR make any duplicators? If not, that sure would bring them into the 21st century.

I don't need a duplicator ! Macrium Reflect has saved me many many times. In fact just today it did. If you don't like it do not use it.

That's all I use also. Tried and used all the rest, but Macrium never fails. What I really like is it's ability to recognize Linux and its labels. and has no issue imaging them as well. I've had issue with Acronis in the past failing because of Linux.

The browse feature is a great addition.

I'm using the Veeam agent. The client is very easy to use and has the features I need:

Backup to a secured network share (not accessible by other programs, unless credentials are applied)
E-mail notification on fail
Great scheduling and automatic cleanup
User friendly restore

The Veeam name is very known and reliable in commerical, but the veeam agent is free for non-commerical use and in my experience also reliable!

As an update, I've been using idrive for a while now and very happy with it once I got it set up. I'm still doing external backups to external hard drives but not as often. The idrive backs up daily.

v6.2.1549_reflect_setup_free_x64.exe My file date for this installation file is 10/16/2016. This Macrium Reflect version has two boxes to select "Yes" or "No" to the question: "Would you like to register your free copy of Macrium Reflect?" This is optional to enable you to be informed about new features and offers. Version 6.2.1549 seems to be the last version of 6. It has a bug fix that resolved a hang on application exit.

I use MiniTool ShadowMaker Pro Ultimate 4.5.0 Lifetime. Hopefully someday it will support Ext4.

I can install this working version (6.2.1549) without being redirected to the Macrium website and having to pay for a (newer) registered version. Bring the cows home, or when(ever) they wander home, along with backward grazing Daisy.

I successfully downloaded the the Reflect Free v8.0 Download Agent as per your post. Running it downloaded the 64-Bit setup file for MR Free v8.0.7783. Running the setup required an email for further instructions when clicking "Get My Code".
The email's instruction: Please use the following link to receive a registration code.
Macrium Reflect | Free 30-Day Trial whereupon you need to fill personal info to register the free "TRIAL"
I didn't do any of that, but used a registration code I got 2½ yrs. ago for v. 8.0.6392 and changing to the corresponding email used at that time. v8.07783 installed successfully. It will be interesting to see if it's a trial necessitating a purchase. If so I can always revert to v6.2.1549.

You only are forced to do that if you selected 'Commercial Use' on this screen:

For Personal Use you get a similar optional 'register' screen as you described earlier. Although it's ticked by default you can un-tick 'Register this installation...'. For commercial use that option is missing.

You would have seen a Trial notification saying how many days left on starting Reflect if that was the case. Also, you can check the install type at any time by selecting About from the Help menu. A trial would say 'Licensed To: Trial User'.

I still think MR is a terrific product but I'm now looking at alternatives and I suspect other people will, too. I wonder how many comments (the serious ones, not the humorous ones) are still accurate. Maybe it's time for a new poll.
