Over the years I've probably felt most at ease with NT and it's related server versions, Of course in my case the OS is a tool for work and often a target for my "Alleged" fixing ability both for personal and professional systems .

I have never cared for the "fancy" skins used and even now the copy of W11 I use is as plain as I can get it as in my case it's merely a container for the current work I'm doing.
Whether I am editing images [for my Photography]. or fixing systems / faults, [For my profession], I try to run the application full screen where possible as this brings the work in progress to the fore.

During my working career I have used many different operating systems. I was for a long time involved in the bespoke industrial automation field so I have used many different specialist software to design user facing control systems

Hi there
I have to disagree with Windows NT as a desktop OS -- for "bog standard basic users" it was an absolute nightmare to get anything working especially any sort of hardware drivers - and Networking was (well Windows Networking has always been a bit of its weak point) best left unsaid.

If you ever had to connect a Windows NT desktop up to an emulated IBM 3277/8/9 type screen to access IBM mainframe things like TSO on MVS/SP via IBM's token ring network adapter and shades of TCAM or VTAM -- then well done and you had good luck -- That task taxed even some of the brightest I.T guys I've ever known in my life to the limit.

Windows NT was so bad we called it "Windows NeanderThal or Windows No Thanks". Might have been fine for I.T admins and as a server but for the ordinary joe as a desktop or workstation OS - I don't think it cut it at all.

The latest Windows 2022 LTSC server is brilliant for a Windows OS - 180 day free trial -- extendable over several times via slmgr, efficient, fast, and as I've said seems to have the best from both W10 and W11. The only program I can't run on that is Macrium as it wants a server version. Amazingly Office 2021 works on it without problems and so does my versions of Adobe lightroom and photoshop,

Always seems a shame that the desktop versions of Windows don't seem to have the same care put into them as the Server editions -- but you can make a shedload of money from corporates unlike basic consumers.

Cheers
jimbo

It is a simple fact - each version of Windows is technically superior to its predecessor. Most people judge on cosmetic claptrap, not what is under the bonnet (hood for pals across the pond).

I suppose that I should be sorry to admit, that I've always avoided any Commercial version of Windows, like NT, like a plague.
Also networking. To take care of my many customers, I had to be an expert on the versions rolling out of the Big Box Stores. So that's what I ran on my own PC. And that's where I concentrated my efforts.

A problem I always had, with every version of Windows, up to Win-8.1/Pro, was chasing down the right drivers, for older PC's.
Win-8.1 came with a really great ability to install the correct drivers for Video, Sound and Lan. The Important stuff.

Likewise, Win-10, and now with Win-11. I can install Win-11 today, without having to go chasing hardware drivers, even for my 10 yr old PC.

And since I have no truck with MS, I miss all the problems that those MS fan boys have with canaries, betas, updates, etc.
I don't count time very well, but it's been over six months since I installed this current version of Win-11, and I've not had any problems at all, and I tweak and tune the heck out of this thing!!! Everything, like Apps, that I don't want or use are GONE!
Nothing's left but a really sweet OS, that just purrrrrrs along, like a happy kitten.

But just in case something does go wrong, I have System Restore set to make a new Restore Point every morning when I first boot up.
And I back up my C:\ partition at least once a week, oftener if the mood hits me.
And, if I create or alter any data files, I do a data backup. Only takes a few seconds with my Backup Batch File. I back up my Data Files to a 128GB Flash Drive and to a 1TB Flash Drive.

I have more fun and fewer problems with Win-11 than I have had with any previous OS.
And, I stay as far away from Microshaft as possible.

Cheers Mates,
TM
