What is your favorite email client and why?

I use gmail.

Any email that "isn't" ON my computer is fine by me.

Thunderbird, because it works correctly.

I started using Microsoft Outlook decades ago when I worked in IT for a major corporation. I've continued to use Outlook to this day because, for me, it's what just feels right. There's that old adage, I know what I like, which really means, I like what I know. I'm also a Microsoft 365 subscriber and Outlook comes as part of the Microsoft Office package.

@TraderGary has best advise. IMO the absolute best email app ever was the old Windows Live Mail. I had used it so long, it was my comfort zone. I even used it in 10 & 11, but it's been out of support so long, and started giving a few problems. I figured it was time to give up the ghost and switched to Outlook 2021. I still fumble sometimes in its settings but am still pleased with it's dependability since WLM has died peacefully.

Thunderbird - because it does the job and is 100% reliable.

@CSharpDev - 'Gmail' is not an 'Email Client'. It is webmail access through a web portal. If you had said 'Thunderbird' then, yes that is an email client and I use that to access my emails. It supports Gmail's OAuth2 and it is in constant development with help forums.

Maybe you meant to say "What is your favourite email app"?

Thunderbird, because it works, and because it's highly customizable.

I use Gmail. Ok, it's not a client but it does everything I need and is good at collecting email from several accounts. The filtering is also well thought out. And it synchs between all my PCs and phone.

Gmail user here too. All of my email is accessible from wherever I am, at any time, from practically any device.

Never again have to backup my email, never have to setup all of the pop email and smtp stuff when I install an OS onto my computer.

I don't mind using the online interface for reading received mail in Gmail, but I dislike the Composing and Replying panels, and there's no simple, one-click way to remove a message from the server and plant it permanently on my office machine. Everything that's of significant value to me as a keeper is on my machine and no longer on the Gmail server. I like the ability to access my mail from anywhere from any device, but I don't want to leave the important stuff up there with the angels ; I want it down here on my M2. NVMe.

I do a Macrium Reflect File & Folder backup of my entire Thunderbird profile folder (including all stored email) every night. Takes exactly six (6) seconds. Backups stored on my second internal disk. Periodically, copied to external.

My favorite is no email client but use of mail trough browser because it's more secure and doesn't consume any PC resources.

Outlook Express was my favorite email client until in Windows 7 Microsoft decided not to support it anymore. After that I used Windows Live Mail, but like @glasskuter already told, it became more and more problematic. Then I switched over to Thunderbird with many extensions to make it function like Otlook express, but it did not satisfy, especially because I want to press the send button and have post still in the outbox, until I press send/receive. I had an extension for that, but that did not function like I would want it. It was too complicated for use by my wife, would not dare to let her use it.

In 2021 I took a (double) licence on EM-Client 8 and that is functioning very much to my satisfaction. Works very much like the old Outlook Express. Before that I tried OE Classic, but the translation into Dutch was awful and you could not drag files or pictures into mails.

I am one of the old school that saves his mails locally, making daily backups of them.
So still using the pop3 protocol, nothing kept on the provider server.
I don't have much reason for reading my mails elsewhere, do that only on my PC at home.

Besides that I have a Gmail account for use with my (Samsung) tablet, because otherwise you can do hardly anything on the device. But only a very few people know that adress, was used in holidays only.

LOL. I delete 99% of my emails and definitely never want to see them again. Only ones I save are receipts.

If I've ever wanted to preserve an individual email for any reason, I've simply copied it to OneNote. Now its preserved.

I've never considered backing up my email itself. I agree @glasskuter, I can't think of a reason I would ever want to.

Ha, ha. That's good gk. I delete them too as soon as I read them. Only save the really, really, really important ones... and they are far and few in between. Oh, and never used a client.

I have used mail.com for several years. It does what I want it to do without any problems. I can access my mail from my phone or Pc from anywhere. I like most of you delete 99 percent of mine after reading. I have the paid version but it is available for free also.
