Poll: Windows 11 - Love it or Hate It?

Again, it seems to me my battery performance has slightly improved. Example: my aging battery in my 2017 Lenovo laptop usually drops to below 50 percent after 2 hours use. Since installing Windows 11, it doesn't drop as rapidly.

I'm asking if anyone noticed this. Yeah, If you don't use the battery you wouldn't notice :wink:

Maybe the math changed...
Maybe power management config changed...
Maybe there is still a lot of services/features missing that drain battery...

Only way to be certain which use less battery is to start from full battery and running the computer until the battery is empty.

Aesthetically it's nice. Honestly overall it's nice. BUT, it's a lot more work to do simple things that were available with one click in windows 10, not just the right click on desktop thing either. That's really my only urk right now that isn't a general ethics issue *cough* tpm *cough*

Most current motherboards support TPM 2.. well since around 2015/2016

List of them

All the Motherboards That Support TPM for Windows 11 | Digital Trends

Windows 11 requires TPM 2.0, and you can likely enable it on your motherboard. Here are the supported models from the top motherboard makers.

From what I understand there's a whole fiasco about it. And MS's response was literally buy a new computer, which is pretty uh, yea. Not even an instruction on how to enable it mind you. It's a pretty awful way to handle the situation and I don't think they get a pass on that lol

My motherboard didn't have instructions on how to enable TPM 2.. I was able to figure it out on my own. It's really not that hard.

That's situational, it wasn't hard for me either. But we aren't discussion people who are going to be on forums like this who are likely into tech enough to be savvy enough to figure that stuff out, we are discussing the consumer base as a whole. In which case, it is absolutely silly not to do a simple instruction on how to enable something you are forcing on literally every person who uses your product. *shrugs*

I guess they never anticipated that MS would make it a requirement for future versions of their OS... if they thought it would be it would have been turned on in the factory. I'm not sure what MS will do with this requirement. They can drop it so people can convert to 11. Or PC shops worldwide will be going nuts enabling TPM and secure boot.

Unless this is a store bought system, if you can find the driver on the vender's site you can find the owner's manual. I've troubleshot many systems here not mine by simply visiting the board's vendor site and downloading the manual. They aren't that hard to find either.

Asus didn't have it in the manuals or when checking the latest on-line copies from Asus for my B350, or Z-170P, but they both had it after hunting in the bios and it was dependent on other settings if it showed up. Only showed up in the B350 after enabling secure boot and Z170-P only appeared after enabling Intel Virtualisation Technology which was pretty much a guess on my part.
Conversely my refurbished Dell Inspiron came with secure boot and TPM2 enabled out of the box.

I've tried Gimp, GimpShop, Paint.net, and Photoshop and I have to say I like PS the most. Luckily I have an Abobe Cloud subscription through work otherwise I probably wouldn't buy it myself.

@Dru2 Just catching up with this thread and yeah I've noticed this too. The battery in this laptop is not the best but I've gone from about 2 hours(ish) to 2 hours 20(ish) so 15-20% better

I've only had it for 3/4 hour, but it seems quite easy to navigate, nothing seems to be missing and even control panel which MS threatened to scrap many years ago is still with us.

I think that list is rather conservative, my humble Asrock A320M-HDVrev 4.0 certainly does and my motherboard quick installation guide also lists their X370M-HDV r4.0, AB350M-HDV r4.0, and the A320M-DVS r4.0.

Regarding the two tier context menu, all full size keyboards (those with a numeric pad) should have a Menu key....

...and smaller keyboards may offer one as an alternative through the 'Fn' key. In all cases where two clicks are required to get to the full context menu (rght-click then Alt+F10) a single press of the Menu key takes you straight there.

Also missing my Quick Launch. At present, I've got the Win11 Start Menu in the middle and Open Shell's on the left. If they ever unlock the task bar then I expect something can be done about Quick Launch or at least something better than what we have been lumbered with.

I've found a not really "workaround" for now. I just moved the Start Menu to the left and am pinning my most used apps and programs to the taskbar. Now, if I could only get my taskbar to the top of my screen where I want it . . .
