Thanks, BrummyFan. I'll try that on the AMD system I'm taking to the Sr. Center next week. I don't have Windows 11 installed on the one I'm going to keep yet. Too many things happening at once in my neck of the woods!

They moved things around on the front end, removed some W10 features, replaced a few icons, and the back end UI still looks like Win7 -- Less nimble & less intuitive than W10 over all. More clicks are required during the personalized and configuration processes.

The OS seems to be heavier and/or somewhat bloated.

You all have to understand, of course, I'm a Linux OS user, so Windows (regardless of build) will always be slower than what I'm used to. I do have to keep my hand in the game somewhat however, because I've got clients that are die hard Windows users and it's important that I stay up-to-date on the latest Microsoft builds.

It's just Windows.
Shuffling the menus around and rounding the corners isn't really very innovative.

It's still just Windows 10 under the hood.

Only thing I wish I had in 10 that is in 11 is the Terminal, nice having powershell and cmd in one app.

I am using 11 but for much of what I do.. or perhaps the little that I do, I can use it all day and not notice it isn't win 10. There isn't anything slapping me in face and saying This is 11, its new... Could be because the start menu lasted in middle only as long as it took me to find the option to move it. If it was still centre, I wouldn't be able to ignore the difference as easily.

I was saying that before I got it, I didn't see what was there to make people destroy their win 10 install just to get this... its not worth it yet. People fell for the reveal video and believed that was what was actually in the beta versions... i think that was a good promo but how much was real is a good question. Hype over powers rationality. People needed the new shiny even though Win 10 had worked perfectly fine up until that point.

Hopefully there is more added to make it different to 10 apart from the UI. That is all I have wanted since the start.

I find the useful features are still there for the most part, but they are in different places.

Bottom left is working for me.... Settings->Personalization->Task Bar->Task Bar Behaviors->Task Bar Alignment

IMHO the biggest single improvement is a Settings app that (finally) has a logical hierarchical structure that you can drill down through to find the setting you are looking for.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

    My SYSTEM FIVE is a Dell Latitude 3190 2-in-1, Pentium Silver N5030, 8GB RAM, 1TB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro, plus Insider Beta, Dev, and Canary builds (and a few others) as a native boot .vhdx.

    My SYSTEM SIX is a Dell Latitude 5550, Core Ultra 7 165H, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, supported device, Windows 11 Pro 24H2, Hyper-V host machine. Updated to 25H2 on 30th September 2025.

    My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine.
I quite like it, 3 things I hate...
1, Folders don't show the contents which was very useful for me.
2, Not being able to add a 3rd party clock to the taskbar, the win11 one is small and a crappy font
3, The context menu, have to click more options to get to the features I use the most.

I hope these change as Win 11 progresses, I do feel that at the moment MS are pushing what they think I should have rather than what I want.... bring back more customisations These are only my opinions

I failed with your youtube video, brummyfan, but I found a tutorial by @Brink, and after trying three or four times, I finally got the taskbar on top!

Or if you are really lazy latest version of WinAero Tweaker can now do it for you including restart Explorer, can also change the taskbar size that messes up the clock etc though.

So far, I am liking it better than 10, but that is just me. I find it to be a better 10 with a modernized GUI

So far everything except my printer is working in Windows 11. I am running it on a separate SSD than Windows 10. So I switch back and forth depending on what I want to use that day. I have a Canon Pixma MG2220 that works great in Windows 10. But Windows 11 sees the printer but it won't let me install the driver. Doesn't make any sense to me. If I can solve this issue I'll probably switch to Windows 11 all the time.
