Installed on my insider machine but I'm not so happy with Windows 10, they have also eliminated many convenient and immediately usable functions such as contacts on the taskbar to send emails and others. I hope it will improve in the future.

I've never used winaero, Clam.
It's an automated version of the same method used in Brink's Tutorial, they give all the actual registry edits etc on their website for those who prefer to know what is getting changed, I always check before using anything!

Late to the party, but I learned in this thread that Paint 3D is on the chopping block :( You could call it up from the old Snipping Tool (also on the chopping block?) and insert text into a snipping which I find useful. The newer Snip & Sketch does not have this text insertion feature. So, now it is launching Paint or some other separate utility to insert text, which is an inconvenience.

If I play xBox, I will add on xBox stuff. Don't stick it in the OS for me.
Yeah, I think that there ought to be a 'productivity only' option that eliminates all non-productivity stuff from the OS.

No, you can't please everyone, but at this point, several of the changes made are to the detriment to what I do every day. If I cannot use an OS efficiently, in fact, when it compromises my ability to teach my students, it's time to step back and take a look at where I and my students go next.
My aging grandma found a tablet to be a revelation, in particular she could enlarge photos and text by spreading her fingers. Once I configured her WhatsApp, she very quickly could receive photos and messages from family and several others. She then took photos from her old photos and spread that around along with her memories. That's a VERY big lift of quality of life, which she certainly would not get with Windows or Macs or Linux. Just saying

Not madly keen on not being able to move the taskbar to the bottom left -- this worked on the "leaked preview" but not the real version.
Otherwise Upgrade was simple enough - no funny errors and all old programs working.

So OK for me so far - perhaps once the android apps get a bit more mature that could be interesting because there are a few android apps which are more convenient and work better than the equivalent Windows apps.

Not sure I like the fonts used in Windows explorer - doesn't really bother me but re-scaling of fonts for various applications would be fine. The fonts also used in the lock screen aren't as nice as in W10.

I like the "Virtual desktop" feature

so my verdict on this so far is : pass and will keep using it.

Cheers

Buy Start11 (now in beta ver o.5) from Stardock for five bucks U.S. But be aware that once you move the Start button to the left, even if you uninstall Start11 the Start button will remain on the left. Knowing Stardock quite well (they started with programs for OS/2_ I'm sure version 1.0 will correct this. Personally I like the Start button in the middle because it reminds me of Gnome 40, which I love (you probably hate it!)

Can't remember whether I already voted or not but here's my experience so far.

Installed and running with Insider Preview Beta.

Overall it has been very stable but believe I'm spending too much time finding where they've hidden all the settings and options.
As stated elsewhere in the forums, I am disappointed about my 3year old processor being relegated to 'unsupported' category and what that will mean going forward. I have visions about calling for support from MS (and being told 'sorry, can't help as your system is not officially supported'. That could apply not only a the OS but the Office Apps.

For that reason I may stay with Win 10 as my main environment until it goes unsupported.

So it's a 'Not Sure Yet' from me.

I have only noticed a couple of very minor bugs. One of them is the ghost popup on the taskbar. Have you been testing for a couple of months or a couple of Days? Your install date suggest a couple of days.

I like the speed of 11. I find it a bit snappier than 10.

But I really liked to have the full screen start and files and links on taskbar. I found tweaks for it and maybe for the start but I'm sure I will get tired of having to tweak at every update.

I don't know how long MS has been working on Win 11 internally. I do know that Win 11 was very close to release to the public ready from the first build that was released in the Insider ring. Even the leaked version ran good.

You can still have Contacts (Windows Address Book) pinned to the Taskbar in Windows 11: It's located at Program Files > Windows Mail > wab.exe

Right-click on the wab.exe file and use the Pin to Taskbar option (under More options)

Quick Launch Area has not been included in the W11 Windows Updates (yet). Without the QLA I find W11 far less convenient for how I have used a computer since WXP. Sad to remove the right click on the Taskbar with immediate access to: Task Manager and other quick adjustments (see attached image from Windows 10). I also tried Start11. It's nicer than W11 Start Button/Menu but still lacks adding QLA to the Taskbar.

I don't know if I love it or hate it because I'm not running it yet. My brand new PC is ready to update to Windows 11 but I can honestly say I haven't seen a single compelling reason to do the upgrade and I love shiny new toys. Windows 10 is running great so why upgrade just to upgrade to something that seems to be a step backwards?

I don't know if I love it or hate it because I'm not running it yet. Windows 10 is running great so why upgrade just to upgrade to something that seems to be a step backwards?

There are no compelling reasons to upgrade to W11 (at this time) other than curiosity. I did the upgrade but made a System Image Backup of W10 before doing so. After I explored W11's features and saw how badly the Taskbar fell short of my expectations; I booted my computer to my W10 Thumb Drive, logged in and used the W10 System Image to put everything back just the way it was before the upgrade to W11. (y)

Having done a lot of tweaking with W11 I downloaded a free backup program and made a System Image of W11 onto another internal storage drive. When I feel like playing with W11 again I will simply make a new backup of W10 then use the boot media I created with the free backup software to recover W11. NOTE: I am not ready to setup a dual boot system. W11 needs to mature a little over the next six months before I would use it as my main OS.

Whew! That was much wordier than I intended!
