Windows 11 Pro ver. 22H2
To start with, so there hopefully is no confusion, this post is dealing with a Windows 11 computer that was just updated yesterday to Windows 11 from a Windows 10 machine. The specs are not what can be seen when clicking on the button to show them. This machine is Intel Core i5 9400F, Asustek Prime Z390-A with 32 GB DDR4 RAM and with a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Graphics card. Windows version is 21H2 (OS Build 22000.739)

Now the problem I am having. When running this machine with Win 10 and all the same hardware my problem never happened. I like to have a lot of shortcuts on my desktop, so I have a method to how I like them arranged, Since updating to Win 11, if I try to move a desktop icon to where I want it, multiple desktop icons move. Luckily I use a program that stores the setup and location of the desktop icons and am able to restore close to what I want from the layout saved in it from Windows 10. However, I had to recreate a couple desktop shortcuts that came up missing following the Win 11 update. So when I try positioning them, the others move again. Consequentially, I don't seem to have any choice of where these shortcuts end up on my desktop. Also when I boot up all the icons I am talking about shift at that time too. Is there anything I can do to stop these icons from moving or a know reason why this is happening?

Perhaps 'Auto arrange icons' and/or 'Align icons to grid' are enabled? Right click on an empty spot on your desktop, select 'View', and make sure both of the aforementioned options are unchecked.

Thank you but they are not. I may have come up with a solution. It was a lot of work but I resized the icons, making them smaller, and then relocating them as I wanted, all 157 of them. There is still one that won't behave, but it acted the same in Windows 10. It is a shortcut to open "This PC." It has always located itself on the left-hand side of the desktop slightly above the horizontal center of the screen. Nothing I have ever tried has stopped it from relocating itself when rebooting or booting up for the first time in the morning. It's not all that bad to move just one shortcut, so I gave up trying to get it to behave. I had hopes Win 11 would have fixed that, but it didn't. Again, Thank you for your suggestion.

A change in Win11 is that many choices have been moved to the right-click of the Start button such as Settings, Task Manager, etc. Most of what was on Win10 right-click of the Taskbar are not there on Win11, the one I miss is the choice of Toolbars is to get Desktop showing. Every thing I run on Win10 still run on Win11, even an old MahJong game from 20 years ago.

@Berton To the right of the system tray is a little bar, click to show desktop, option in taskbar settings right click, Taskbar behaviours. If that is what you mean?

No. That icon is just to display the Desktop, minimizes open programs, click again restores the programs. It doesn't have the temporary view as Win10 does. The Desktop Toolbar shows a list of all the icons on the Desktop and can choose to open one with a click.

I am not sure if this is what you're looking for but it says it will restore the Win 10 Classic Taskbar and its Right Click Options. Classic Taskbar Settings

my desktop, with hand positioned icons. But I still have the issue of auto hiding taskbar which throws the icons all over the screen.

edit: Just changed taskbar to Win 10 with explorer patch. Still the same problem with taskbar auto.
