Possible experiment...

post 10473

Is there a particular reason your new disk is an 860 rather than the more recent 870 ?
Most likely because the 870 doesn`t come in a Pro version.

IMO, the Pro`s are just better. I`m getting a 860 Pro 512 GB for W11.

But then again, maybe a 980 Pro 500 GB for $20 more :)

Generally the Pro uses 2-bit MLC, and the Evo uses 3-bit MLC. While the Evo holds more data in each cell, this means lower write endurance compared with the Pro. The Pro has twice the write endurance of the Evo. Speeds remain nearly the same size for size

LOL. Yes it was. Brian said the Pro was better, and you said: "In what way"?

Well, I guess it's been a day and a half...

@SIW2 No reason. I have an 860 Evo already, so I bought another. Now they... match. :D

I could have bought a 980 Pro, too. I'm in no hurry though.
My motherboard has 2x M.2 PCIe 4.0 ports I haven't used either.

I am curious about the 870, apparently it uses the same nand as the 980 pro and has the same endurance.

Why have you linked to those sales sites?

For anybody interested in the 870, the 1tb seems to be the best value point, it is often available for £100 - I have seen it at £90.

Difficult for Samsung to maintain the msrp of the 870 given the cost lower of many nvme disks. According to the testing that I have seen, the 870 is the best sata ssd out there. How much of that is noticable in real life use is hard to tell.

Newegg always posts all the manufacturer's specs.
It's easier to compare specs on Newegg. They aren't overloaded with marketing.
