Out of the blue, I get these warnings when plugging in an external USB SSD and again while using it. These warnings don't stop the USB disk working, These are very recent - in the last day or so. I had them yesterdaty when using a USB CR-DVD writer.

I assume you have, or will, provide a power connection to the scsi drive. Most USB ports were not intended to provide that much amperage.

It is a tiny drive I have been using for many months. It does not need a power supply, same for the external USB cd-DVD drive.

Out of curiosity, are you plugging it into a USB 2 port? Some drives require a USB 3 port to supply sufficient power or a Y-adapter that plugs into two USB 2 ports to get sufficient power.
BTW, I have a theory (I could be wrong on this): When you first plug in a drive, it takes more power to initially spin up the drive. Then it requires less power to just stay up to speed. Maybe that is why you get an initial surge indication and then it operates normally. But that should, in theory, only be a problem on a USB 2 port.

Hmm, (scratching my head). That is odd. Are you using the same cable in both instances? Maybe a bad cable with a grounding problem? Very odd. I'll have to think about that one a bit, but nothing else comes to mind immediately.

No, the cd-dvd drive has a captive cable, the USB SSD has its own cable. I think this is a bug in Windows 24H2. The laptop was on mains power on both occasions and the battery was nearly fully charged.

Another oddity is that, when ripping CDs the rip would often fail unless the laptop and or the cd-dvd recorder was not touched. This happened on both USB ports which are on opposite sides of the laptop. I have never had a problem with USB sticks in either port.
