Print Issues

Have seen this intermittently.

Print command does not get through to default printer but this seems to be the case ONLY when custom pages are selected. The same document prints if I select to print all pages.

I think I have seen this on two win 11 systems each attached to different printers (same model - Xerox C235).

Sometimes seems to resolve itself and documents print as expected regardless of print settings selected. Not sure how.

Have cleared print spool and restarted Print Spooler Service, also have restarted Windows.

As I was typing this got a windows notification that I have 'unused printers' asking if I want to clean them up. Have no idea if this is in anyway related. Windows reports latest Xerox drivers are installed.

Have run the print treoubleshooter (once I fund it in the supposedly improved new settings screens). Just got spinning blue wheel (now 8 minutes and about to give up).

Has anyone else seen this issue - all responses gratefully received.

UPDATE: Some two hours later the so called 'printer troubleshooter' blue wheel is still spinning away.

UPDATE 2: I can print individual pages by displaying the page in the print dialogue and selecting 'print selected page'. This must be a bug in windows 11.

I would ignore Windows Update drivers and install the official Xerox drivers. These improve compatibility and enable more features than the "print only" (no quality settings) Windows Update drivers.

Thanks but from my post: "Windows reports latest Xerox drivers are installed." Windows as in device manager reports Xerox drivers. Installed using Xerox SmartStart. So I think the printers will have the latest Xerox drivers as that app will have downloaded the latest.

Do you have this issue in one application only, or on many applications? If it is one, see if there is any upgrade for the application or security setting affecting printing.

Just tried a pdf and that worked for just one (custom) page. Tried word doc again and this time worked with selecteding a custom page in middle of document or the last page which was not working before. My first sentance said this was intermittent.

Will keep watching to see if I can pin it down anymore.

For applications with two different print interfaces, such as Office's default vs CTRL+P "classic interface", see if the issue appears in one or both. Chances are that the classic interface is not affected. Also make sure the printer is not changed before printing. For example if you use Microsoft PDF to create a PDF document it may change the default printer to Microsoft PDF. Some file printers even output a default file without asking for location or name, so you may think it doesn't print, but it did.

Thanks. Not sure I am following on the pdf issue. I was printing to the Xerox and the print queue resolutely stays at zero. I do regularly print to PDF as well. I think in both cases I was using the classic office print interface. I don't like the new noddy MS interface and I have a feeling that behind the scenes changes being made to that are what may lie behind this issue somehow. Will see if I can pin it down as and when it happens next time.
