Hi,

We have a printerproblem - Erronous Program: printui.exe version 10.0.26100.5074
Windows is awaiting an Update to H25 but, Windows Update gives: Error 0x800f0983

This printerproblem seems the cause that the update will not run.

I tried to repair with an iso on USB taken from the microsoft-site.

Now as this is an austrian system the Region/Language is de_AT or written out "Deutsch (Österreichisch)" this is how the system was installed.
At Microsoft one can only get de_DE or written out "Deutsch (Deutschland).

It is not possible to use the german ISO on a system installed with the austrian iso and keep all apps and data.

Is there someone that has an idea on how to solve these Problems, Updating to H25 and repair of printui.exe so we have functional Windows 11 pro?

BTW this PC is new, just 1 week old, i was in the process of moving programms and data.

I will be gratefull for any hint.

Regards,
Jan

Have you tried an online DISM repair? It might take a long time (a few hours in the worse case).

This avoids using an ISO source, but depending on the problem, it may or may not fix your specific error.
Code:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Regarding upgrading
On multilingual systems, this error is very often caused by language pack mismatches, especially when the installed OS language (e.g., de-AT) doesn’t match the ISO used for repair (de-DE).

Check there is enough availabe free disk space on the system drive to complete an upgrade.

Check EFI partition. While it must be at least 100 mb, 260 mb is typical. I have had a system fail to upgrade even when their EFI partition was 100 mb. I had to extend the EFI for the upgrade to complete.

From command prompt as admin, As Garlin said first run online DISM. DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Once it completes run sfc /scannow

If DISM can't repair it, while Microsoft does not provide de‑AT ISO, UUP does. Attempt in-place upgrade using that.
(Note if you are running incompatible hardware, you will have to use the Rufus method to upgrade or clean install if it comes to that.) Upgrade Unsupported PC to Windows 11: Rufus Guide

If upgrade still won't complete you have to look at the failure logs
to see the cause of your failure. Depending on where in the install the failure occurs, the log can be in multiple places.

If no error message occurs, the following log files are created when an upgrade fails during installation before the computer restarts for the second time. You have to look at these logs to get an idea of what's causing the failure.

C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources\panther\setupact.log
C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources\panther\miglog.xml
C:\Windows\setupapi.log

[Windows 10:] C:\Windows\Logs\MoSetup\BlueBox.log
C:\Windows\inf\setupapi.app.log
C:\Windows\inf\setupapi.dev.log
C:\Windows\panther\PreGatherPnPList.log
C:\Windows\panther\PostApplyPnPList.log
C:\Windows\memory.dmp

The following log files are created when an upgrade fails, and then you restore the desktop:
C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources\panther\setupact.log
C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources\panther\miglog.xml
C:\$Windows.~BT\sources\panther\setupapi\setupapi.dev.log
C:\$Windows.~BT\sources\panther\setupapi\setupapi.app.log
C:\Windows\memory.dmp

The following log files are created when an upgrade fails, and the installation rollback is initiated:
C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources\Rollback\setupact.log
C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources\Rollback\setupact.err

Mine rolled back so I found my particular error in the last 2 logs.

If logfiles do not direct you to what caused the error, I advise anyone to not waste his time. Bite the bullet, back up your data, and do a clean install. 25h2 will have you chasing your tail for days.

Thank you both for the very detailed description of my options!

The PC is a Ryzen 5 with 32 Gb Memory and a NVM SSD of 512 Gb with at least 400 Gb free.
I own a similar one myself and the upgrade to H25 went smooth in my case.
We had trouble with drivers for an old Canon MFP - that is where the trouble started.

I will be working on this tomorrow, it is almost midnight, i need my beautysleep ;-)

Jan

1) Please temporarily modify the default language to English so that log files can be scanned and read:

2) Run administrative command prompt and copy and paste:

dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup

Post a share link.

3) Add WMIC:

DISM /Online /Add-Capability /CapabilityName:WMIC~~~~

4) Run tuneup_plus_log.zip > post a share link

5) Run the V2 log collector > post a share link

6) Run upgrade_failure_info.bat > post a share link

Hi,
i ran the commands glasskuter advised this did work good and rather fast.
After that i ran all Updates that windows presented. Windows itself is repaired (that took hours) and now Windows says that the system is uptodate although it presents itself as H24 . . . .
I guess that the update to H25 will be presented "shortly" .
The next thing is to get the printer working, an old Canon MFP8350.

Thanks for the help!

Regards,
Jan
